Hello guys!
I would like to ask for a little advice as a noob who would like to really get in the game. I tried to start playing this game multiple times but I gave up for whatever reasons, this time I really want to give it a go, find friends, play actively and start being part of the community.
But I was talking about asking for advice, so here it is : I would like to play a WH if I followed my heart, but I spent a few hours reading forums about advice/recommendation and most people seem to advise against starting a Witch Hunter, as it's very hard, quote "useless", "not useful in parties".
Is it really that bad and if yes what class would you guys recommend for someone who is new with good MMO experience and would like to find parties / join group easy. Any role is fine for me.
And of course, can I still learn WH and be just as useful as others if I spend a good time learning it.
Is it really a "bad" idea to start as a WH? AKA help a noob

The "elite" hardcore players have this mini-maxed ideal.
Unless you want to turn this game into a job, ignore them.
Play what you want, pugs and casual guilds have no issue with WH's and the legendary csi proved that WH's worked well as a lead.
Embrace the power if the hat ninja if it's what you want.

Not optimal to roll a witch hunter if this is your first time playing WAR/ROR. They can be quite powerful with much higher rr and BiS gear (although It's not possible to 3-4 shot people with torment spam here, hehe). My personal biggest annoyance is being a NA player means playing a squishy melee dps class is a betch (tanks snaring you more than 5ft away).

if u like WH that much just go for it, the barrier isn't as big as they make it up to be if you have mmo experience.Caleb wrote:Hello guys!

You are gonna do well fine until midtier (lvl31), in t4(32-40) you are gonna start to lag behind as you will be squishy AND undergeared so dealing meh damage.
You will have to grit your teeth for a time, but that's basically what every class has to go through, some more than others.
With a little patience, some Renown ranks, some Equip, you will start catching up again.
it's a great class if you like the solo ganker, or gank with other WHs. It's less desired in Warbands and group play, unless they are guildies and they will take whatever.
but if you also would like to be a really wanted group class, then WH might not be it, even if you had the best gear out there.

I wouldn't call it a 'bad' idea, but you certainly should know what you are getting into.
I can't be assed to cross-link to the previous rant I made about this in a different thread, but the gist of it is that you'll always be subpar compared to WL and Slayer, most groups will want nothing to do with you, and you'll be deleted by just about every ranged character that you DON'T get to sneak up on because you have no real defense outside of one or two cooldowns that you have to spec for, dropping some of your offense to get. Also you are generally useless in big warband vs warband fights in RvR lakes.
Pick WH if you like to gank solo enemies, because that's the only thing WH is particularly good at.

who are these groups that want nothing to do with WHs? bad groups, I guess? WH is awesome in group play with a comp supporting him. Happy to showcase its brilliance and link a few vids of WH group play from PoV of Csi.

Pretty much. WH is mainly for ganking squishy careers and proving how "pro" you are, but for group play it really only works for the most hardcore of the hardcore players- the ones that dedicate their life to the game.Caleb wrote:Spoiler:
That said, leveling is now on par to grindy korean mmos so I wouldn't recommend playing something you don't enjoy. It's a waste of time. If you want to play a WH, play a WH. Don't waste your time leveling something else you won't enjoy.
If you want the best of both worlds, White Lion is generally good for solo and group play. It's top tier. More so now than ever before.

Anything a WH can do in a group, a Slayer or WL can do, and better, and people know this. One BiS- geared WH with a dedicated group of his friends who are also highly geared does not set a standard for the class as a whole.peterthepan3 wrote:who are these groups that want nothing to do with WHs? bad groups, I guess? WH is great fun, However some find it frustrating it’s kinda on the edge all the time one snare and you’re mincemeat. Group up get yourself a rune priest friend that’s a good combo.
As for group utility double heal rebuff and exit wound and watch healers run.
