Group with a good WL, knight and 2h SM. Any group you come across will be all preoccupied with the loldps you can stand wherever the hell you want. WL can pull or kd any mdps off you, you can lolselfpunt away and snare anyone coming at you.

Thank you Saupreusse, but I do not play Destro. Never have never will. I just take a break from the battle at that point.

Or you could play assault, it's amazing for those of us that suck at the game because of the raw damage it can put out and amazing parry against melees aswell as knockdown/disarm. Still gonna have a really hard time against a few specific maguses, but most of them are very much beatable.

Thank you Lefze for your input but I like the ranged aspects of the SW and prefere to play and focus that. :)

Pretty sure the -10 dodge was removed. As for the parry, thats correct, and with gear, wrist slash and IA on top you get close to 1k WS.

I'll whole-heartedly agree with those advising strafe right/left rather than the standard "turn" right/left as a major factor in performance. Strafe is so very important to being able to do damage to your enemy without getting "caught" [and likely kilt if you don't have assault - unless you have gear/rank advantage anyway.]

Also, when I first started playing SW I was a *cough*mouse mover*cough* because that worked just fine with my RP and Slayer. While I was able to master the mouse flip (letting me shoot enemies behind me whilst moving,) the mobile ranged SW is a completely different animal from RP/Slayer. Not only does keyboard moving give you better damage with on the move abilities [not just SPA, but /any/ mobile ability,] but it also frees your mouse/trackball up for visual/situational awareness, which is another really important ability for range SW play.

Video examples so one can see how massive a differences we're talking about:
Spoiler:
Unfortunately I fell hard for Assault early on so only my very early videos show a more range focused play-style, it's honestly just not my thing, however, I believe they do show the very evident advantages of keyboard movement, strafing instead of standard right/left, and using situational awareness on the mouse. Just keep in mind that these are such old patches that they do not at all correlate to RoR (Whirling Pin for example used to be a slow vs an escape, they got rid of minimum range on the SW, etc.) These examples are not about game play; my damage, my play-style, nor how I'm using the specific abilities, it is about how I, as a person, am actually controlling my SW, as well as how I use that control to, by extension, control my enemy, dictate the battle on my terms, and so forth...

This clip shows mouse movement, with my "generally" mastered mouse flip for reverse firing ( clip at 1:29 ) [Notes: Patch 1.3.3, RR49 full scout build playing in assault stance, tactics: Masterful Aim, Split Arrows, Leading Shots, Centuries of Training]: https://youtu.be/6eQHFmtvtfI?t=1m29s

vs keyboard strafe ( clip at 13:07 ) [Notes: Patch 1.4.2, RR81 Assault/Skirmish, tactics: Masterful Aim, Instinctive Aim, Sinister Assault, and Expert Skirmisher]: https://youtu.be/sHDthjzXnss?t=13m7s

Here's a video showing standard right/left keyboard movement with mouse for situational (was still learning this technique so I did revert to mouse movement a lot when things got hectic - which I think makes it a really good example because you get a mix of both "failed" techniques) [Notes: Patch 1.3.3, RR51 Scout/Skirmish, tactics: Masterful Aim, Split Arrows, Leading Shots, Centuries of Training, Bullseye, Split Arrows, Expert Skirmisher]:

Getting a little better w/keyboard movement, but it's still standard right/left movement [Patch 1.3.4, RR51-RR54 full scout, tactics: Masterful Aim, Discerning Offense, Leading Shots, Centuries of Training] Notice all the cone of fire errors because of right/left movement in this one:

vs my Booties video series showing strafe keyboard movement with heavy situational awareness with the mouse, as well as how you can use range and LOS to your advantage when you have good situational habits [Notes: Patches: lvl 0-9 1.3.5 and 9-11 are 1.3.6 w/removal of min range, RR0-RR10 low level scout/skirmish and skirmish/assault stances, this video series was intended to be all about all around good play on a range SW as part of a training project but they shut down the server before it was finished]:

Unfortunately I never did do my planned Scout training video series, with my aversion to scout range play, all the servers getting merged, my buddies all quitting [and making me play other games], plus my personal [all about messin' with my frenemies] play-style I really don't have anything higher rank that pulls it all together in a well played range focused build. Best I can offer is one of my Skirmish Project videos, but even there you can see it was heavily influenced by my "in your face, come get me, front-lines shield/tank/mdps/distraction" play-style [Notes: patch 1.3.4 (but prepping for 1.3.6), RR69 14 point Skirmish/11 point Scout]:

I honestly wasn't all that successful in straight up planned kind of 1v1s because I the spec I ran most of the time was an "ambush" style tanky/defensive build geared toward front lines pestering and distracting the enemy for my fellow players that was quasi-reliant upon other bodies when I got too much attention, however I did find this video with a number of my preferred, totally suicidal, 1vs6-12 kind of solo fights ~giggles~ [Notes; patch 1.3.6, RR77 skirmish/assault build, tactics: Masterful Aim, Expert Skirmisher, No Respite, Replenishing Strikes]:
