I like the wounds debuff. It would have been something I thought of. Another thing was using the Backlash mechanic. I would make it so, that you do a percentage of the damage you are dealing to your target.
For an example. If you are hit by a backlash at 25 combustion yo get 25% of the damage you dealt with that attack. If you are hit by a backlash at 100 combustion you get a 100% of your own damage. Addidtionally I would scale the probability of a backlash to the combustionrate. So if you are at 20 you have a 5% chance to be hit by a backlash. At 100 it would be between 60 and 75% for example.

Re: [BW/Sorc] Mechanic
What if the problem is not the class-defining mechanic but some really stupid tactis and spells thoses classes have?
For example:
-embrace the flames/glorious carnage
-burn through (and echo of power to a lesser extent)
-flashfire(?)
-ruin & destruction
How any dev could think undefendable stuff is balanced in any way? How could they think that acces, in a matter of seconds without even be in los of ennemy, to a undefendable unmitigable aoe nuke is a nice way to balance the game? How is it balanced that one guys gets the aoe nuke and his mirroir gets a protection that does not protect against said nuke?
To me it's not the core mechanic that is the real problem but some really stupid abilites these classes have in an unbalanced way.
We could also add whispering winds and chop fasta (lol) that put BW/sorc in an easy mode of throwing big damages freely thanks to range and reckless gathering/burnout.

throw creative idea to buff your class. no one stops u.
you can discuss later about actual selected idea.
1. exceed 100 mechanic, 25% chance you explode and return to 0 mechanic.
plus dmg debuff for X sec. it's the warp thing.
you have to maintain 80~90 mechanic.
2. increase backlash chance. and backlash 3 times in a row, u explode and return to 0.
plus dmg debuff for X sec.
manage your mechanic!

Re: [BW/Sorc] Mechanic
I wonder if a builder/spender would be interesting like you toglle some kind of stance that turn all your spell into spender and giving them some new effect.
Basically DM would build up normally (i'd say nerf the buff and go for a 15/50, and keep the backlash as it is, maybe scale up the overall damage so the building seems more efficient) and when you reach 100 you can go into a stance were all your ability spend DM.
Like greap of fear becoming an unbreakable 3 sec root at the cost of lets say 50 DM or more. (just an idea out of the blue)
but that would need an horefful lot of coding so i guess its not doable

It wouldnt kill the class, it would just make it harder to play, thats all. And I thought, that was Penrils goal. Equal Drawbacks to the strength of the mechanic. You still could maintain 100% all times, you just would need a dedicated healer. Or you could manage your resources so you wont be killed. The used numbers were also meant as an example. You also could say 75% of your own damage on 100 combustion. So where exactly is the problem with those propositions. I really would appricieate it if you could go in further details.

Re: [BW/Sorc] Mechanic
There were lots of wise posts as to why the mechanic shouldn't be touched, and one that holds the strongest is still the Hao's one, as it also supports the balance thread format.
I've played through sw, sh, engi. Other classes posses same, or even higher group wise potential with less drawbacks and counter capabilities. I'm not biased right now. Bw/sorc shines only at pugfarm situations in case of ST dmg, and at aoe pressure because of longer reach. Guarded and cleansed target is unkillable for these classes, unless focusing with 2 other rdps, and then at this job 3sws/shs are still more effective.
As one person said, maybe leave for now classes that work and went through majority of nerfs to them, and start buffing other ones. The defensive Meta is pretty strong right now, and it will become even more of a problem with further higher tier itemization.

Both BW and Sorc can do a 2k-4k burst dmg (with WoP/BB, VoT/SB, HoF/WH proc) in 1,5 sec. The average hp in T4 is 5,5K. So if you hurt yourself 4k, in 1,5sec, and meanwhile the enemy try to dmg your char, you will be dead. Nearly always. You can say, that "then dont use max combustion", but that way, you wont use your class potentieal ever. If the class potential can't be played, than its a bad design.
And no one would bring a class like this in combat, so it will be literally kill the class.

Re: [BW/Sorc] Mechanic
Chosen and zealot have morale building tactics, like sorc/bw, so i dont think that its a problem. To compare morales is not the topics question. (How can you compare an 1200 dmg aoe, with a 20% dmg reduction (that stack with challenge/crippling strikes etc)?Aceboltz wrote:What if the problem is not the class-defining mechanic but some really stupid tactis and spells thoses classes have?

From whispering wind/chop fasta every character can profit not just sorc/bw.
