So, 17 hours to reach level 33 during a double XP event.Foomy44 wrote:To anyone complaining about leveling being too slow in this game, I rolled a toon yesterday on order which I have 0 characters, experience, or friends on and got him to t4 in less than 24 hours, no help from outside sources. It's really not that hard to level up, woulda taken twice as long without the event which still isn't bad for reaching endgame. Yeah my RR will be low but last guy I did this with I was getting 8-9k renown an SC once I hit 40 so it's not hard to get your RR caught up with your normal level at least.
34 hours adjusted for normal XP gains
Level 33 is only 85% to max level but Xp needed per level is not linear so lets say that is only 60% of the total XP needed for Max level.
That gives us ~57 hours to reach 40 grinding Champs. But hold on because you're still missing 40 levels of renown which is important and limits you in a big way. So how many hours to grind that out? can't do that mindlessly.
And as someone mentioned this depends a lot on class, and how quickly and efficiently you can grind. Other classes are going to take longer.
So lets increase that number by another 30% to account for the average time after including the slower classes.
Lets assume someone can only play 1-2 hours a day. So (57*1.3)/1.5= 49 days. 49 long days of mindless grinding mobs. Sounds terribly boring, I would probably do some other things to break up the grind which probably won't be as effective so will increase the time frame. Then there is the renown to get, lets add another month to account for that.
2-3 months to reach 40/40 when playing 1-2 hours a day?
seems long to me.
TLDR: mob grinding for 17 out of 24 hours during a 2x XP event and reaching 33/0 is not reflective of normal leveling or normal game play practices. and is also irrelevant since you still need to grind to 40 and get some renown.

Re: Fast Leveling
I never said it was normal gaming practices, if it was I wouldn't have made this post since I wouldn't have seen any previous posts about people complaining how slow the leveling is. If you are only playing 1-2 hours a day and you are complaining about not being at endgame in less then a month then that's your problem, I don't know a whole lot of MMOs where you could accomplish that as a casual. This wasn't a post about hitting 40 (although I could have easily done that in a few more hours) or getting the best endgame set, this was because I see people complaining about not being able to get to T4 fast enough so they can start playing the end game pvp stuff and acquiring endgame gear and renown at a good rate which is what I set out to do.Lancez wrote:So, 17 hours to reach level 33 during a double XP event.Foomy44 wrote:To anyone complaining about leveling being too slow in this game, I rolled a toon yesterday on order which I have 0 characters, experience, or friends on and got him to t4 in less than 24 hours, no help from outside sources. My first SC win after the event ended gave me 16k renown, I believe I went up 4 renown ranks in 1 game, so yeah, doesn't take a whole lot of time to level the renown to where most new T4 players would have it once you reach T4 and start earning it at these increased rates. I'm pretty sure it takes WAY less time to do what I did and start earning renown at crazy rates faster at T4 then to try to level via SCs/RvR and keep it balanced with far lower rates of gain in the lower tiers. Plus I am earning t4 currency for endgame gear already, so basically I am getting a whole lot more value out of my time in PvP atm than I would be if I had PvPd startin from lvl 1. 1 play 1 scenario and I end up with more renown and much closer to t4 gear set than someone who plays 5 scenarios in T1, seems like a good setup to me.
The main reason I did this post was to help encourage people that are getting turned off by the leveling pace, and hopefully give them some advice on how to speed things up. I see people in game all the time tell new people they should level via SC and RvR to keep their renown up and if I had to level that slowly to reach endgame I might have given up (I DEFINITELY wouldn't have multiple 40 alts). I'd rather be bored grinding 1 day than frustrated that I'm stuck in lower tiers and can't reach the "real game" (which is how a lot of people see t4) for weeks/months. After posting this I've had a few people in game ask me for good farm spots and I showed em where they could be farming, so hopefully some good has come out of this.

Re: Fast Leveling
We are still talking about the same game, yeah?
Considering all the math done throughout the thread only accounts for playing solo, without any attempts whatsoever made to make use of the multiplayer aspect of this <massive multipler online> (MMO), I don't see the merits of it.
It should be obvious that every MMO will turn into a chore, especially as it comes to leveling, if it is played completly solo.
Just yesterday I helped a little git level from 17-20 within, what, 20min? Doing so on a level 39 sorc grinding the level 40 trolls in BC, taking it - due to the backlashs - extraordinarily slow.
Now imagine how quickly that would have been if I had played just about any other class in the game.
If you were to play no more than 1-2hours a day, you should still be able to see at least one group actively looking for members to level. At times you will even see l40s asking for small pockethealers to join them in their farm, and aside from that you can anytime make use of the chat yourself and ask whether there is anyone farming that you could leech xp from - regardless of your class -, or whether there is anyone interested in starting up a group to grind pqs (havoc [10-15+], mayhem[20-25+], ruin[30-35+]).
Your absolute best bet afterall, in every single set of circumstances, is to actively make an effort to join a guild. Nazgul, Phalanx and many other guilds on destro are currently recruiting, so are CNTK and others on order.
That effort would not only help to alleviate the struggles you face when getting a char up to t4, but also set you up for the actual game - providing you with plenty of opportunity to group later on.
As it comes to renown gain, you will have a hard time with acquiring renown - regardless of your initial setup - if you do not have a group to actively play with. Pugging scs and pugging rvr yields barely any renown compared to just about any level of coordinated play.
Even a duo roaming in the lakes will acquire renown a million times faster than someone mindlessly pugging 24/7 - if you pug scenarios the chances of winning are slim-to-nonexistant, unless you get to ride on the back of a premade; if you pug rvr and join in on poorly led warbands you will not only get relentlessly farmed most of the time, but you will also have to split the renown across the 23 other derps you are with.
Now go figure how much close to zero (factoring in being farmed/struggling to find opposition during certain timeslots) divided by 24 is.
If you choose to solo throughout the leveling process, you'll have the math above take effect. If you choose to pug throughout endgame, no amount of preperation during the former will help you breaking the rr40, let alone rr50+ treshold any time soon.

Re: Fast Leveling
just a little question: why is RR40 a threshold? and why RR50?
Re: Fast Leveling
because at r40 rr40 you have the standard 26 mastery points and you can effectively pick the majority of your tactics and abilities for class builds.Musax wrote:just a little question: why is RR40 a threshold? and why RR50?

Re: Fast Leveling
As mentioned in some posts above, many players are just leveling their characters alone on PvE side in a little spot against a champion mob, during more 40 hours per month or in three days for those who can...
Probably, their is more than 50 players online every day, leveling like that in their little corner, not playing... It's sad for a mmo... And the RvR is empty... And when the RvR/PvP players log on, they just disconnect because of the emptyness of the RvR.
Now imagine, what would give a good reason to those players to come leveling their characters on the RvR lake ?
-Make more xp/rr gain on RvR ?
-Make the RvR objectives more attractives for solo players in term of leveling xp/rr ?
-Make the keep attack for the low Tiers more possible for a little group ? (on the live server, a single man was able to attack the keep door, take the keep flag and the zone announce or Tier was pushing all the players arround, on the RvR)
-Reduce the xp gain on the PvE side ? (little taunt for the PvE boy)
Because if you start to attract one players on the RvR, some will come and the battle will begins. But the mechanics must accept less players to drive the outcome of the RvR.
In my own work, this is not possible to say to one or two clients : "no, we can't go, because the boat is not full of passengers", If you do that, you will lose all your future clients. It's the same about many profession/service. A supermarket at nine for the morning, can't say no we can't open the door because there is not enough clients at the front door.
This is the same problem here, curently the RvR T2, T3 is not open because there is not enough players for the battle begins; And all the day at every hours, one or two players log on and finaly log out in the minute.
The RvR should be more open and working for all, less or more players. Or is dead.
If you have more suggestion ?
