A while back i saw some guy asking for a French speaking guild. I asked him why, because his English looked fine to me. (i am Dutch and for as long as i play MMo's, since 1999 i was on US servers, because i can't stand dutch talk in games.) In WAR on the US server there was always the Quebec guild who only spoke French. They were with about 30 people in the guild, but never got into alliances because well, language barrier. So i asked the french person, why exclude yourself from the main group who speak English. He said because his English wasn't good. I told him i learned English from being in English speaking guilds, my English got so much better than when i learned it in school. In the Netherlands we learn an average of 3 to 4 languages in school. Besides Dutch we also get French, German, English and in some schools Spanish.
Now i don't mind that people speak Russian, Polish, French, Klingon, whatever... But with the majority of people speaking English, you are bound to exclude yourself from the big group, which is where all problems start. Don't isolate yourself. Don't be ashamed that your English isn't up to speed, hell i know quite a few Americans who's English is piss poor at best. I Had someone in my guild who was so bad at English it was damn near a new language. Of course there's a few childish people who are going to troll you about it, but don't let them drag you down to their level and beat you with experience, they are idiots. If you're ashamed at your level of English, let people in your guild know, they won't heckle you about it.
Besides that, i think in the near future we will be able to create channels. Make your Russian, German, Chinese, Swedish, Kryptonian language channels, and talk to people in your native tongue.
I think what bothers people now mostly is mindless drivel in Advice chat in any language. If you want to know how this or that guy is doing, say hi and then take it to tells. It's pretty annoying to ask a question in Advice and it being swamped in nonsense about how to beat a level in call of duty, or how Kim K's ass is photoshopped.
Oh and for crying out loud, drop your stuff in AH for a reasonable price, or make an auction channel... Seeing someone spam 12 lines of crap for sale in advice chat THAT is pretty damn aggrivating.

Re: Advice Channel and Language Control
I play for at least a few hours every day and it seems to me that Order advice chat is much *more* plagued by non-English and non-Russian speech than it is by Russian. At the same time people are much more tolerant to other languages as mindblowing hyeroglyphs of The Great and Mighty Language (sic!) are too strange/difficult to be understood.
Basics of human behaviour:
I must hate everything different
I must hate if I do not understand something
I must demand everyone do what I do as I do because that's the only true way of doing
Let's wait for Code of Conduct and meanwhile, what about Minus IQ pills?

Please don't post if you didn't even read the thread. There's a lot more reason behind this then your non-existing "hate of everything different".OldPlayer wrote:I play for at least a few hours every day and it seems to me that Order advice chat is much *more* plagued by non-English and non-Russian speech than it is by Russian. edit: Oh and i forgot, @Sook18: I'm not from England, english isn't even my first language. I'm just able to recognize it as the language to use to speak with other people.

Great idea. Anyone who doesn't want to see other languages in global chat should just filter out global chat entirely.Jokerloz wrote:.. /filter
Wait a minute...

This thread is moot at this point - if individual channels are going to be fixed, then foreign languages can each move to their own channel and main /ad chat can be mandated English-only.

The point is, that there have always been a lot of players, that couldn't speak english. Limiting their chats without any real need just means, that you're pushing them out of the community - I don't think there is a much stronger way of saying, that someone isn't welcome in that specific place.Nishka wrote:Language policy is a common thing for servers. And it won't hurt non-english speaking players, as they will still have local chat, guild chat, region chat, pms... They can speak russian non-english languages as much as they want. Just not on the advice channel.
(btw, I'd be happy to learn some russian)

Re: Advice Channel and Language Control
i'd like too see less different languages in global chat, put up multiple languages chats will only split ppl and the result will be no cooperation, moreover they should learn some english, even if they make some error, speaking in chat will help them, also "inc", "order zerg at x",etc are all words that are used quite often so they do not have to learn all the languages but only some expressions, it's not kinda hard, and ppl will know what they write.
Also guild and alliance alredy provide those separate chats, for requesting help in some way, and all of this is made to creat a group enviroment. It need to remain that way.
