Like title says, why cant i dye mercenary gear for choppa? :(

You can.
Try equiping a dyeable thing, try dying that but don't click yes, equip merc gear and then click yes.

Unfortunately choppa merc gear can any be dyed with 1 color and it doesnt look great.
