Too much flak!

This has been bugging me for a while!

The people responsiple for RoR Get WAAAY to much flak from the community!

I think that people have forgotten that these guys are regular jagoffs like everyone else who loved WAR and decided to host a server for it with their own money using their own free time so that everyone can play.

they are not paid game devs or in any way a game company so i would appreciate it if people stop acting so entitled against them, even though not everything they do lives up to your standards they are still trying their best to deliver a good game experience and balance to you.

Thanks you guys for allowing me the opportunity to play WAR and thank you for the time you put in!

Regards Genne from Phalanx!

Your'e right and wrong. Devs here are players from Live server with knowledge of game industry. They made this game also for themselves because they love WAR, but to enjoy it, they need population of testers i.e. us for best possible RvR sytem and mechanics. Yes there are many ungrateful peeps, but they are minority.

This is Alpha and everything should be criticized, especially the work they are doing, but some just express it not in a constructive way. Same as we criticize our ideas and theirs, so they do it to us and their own work. That is how we (as community of Alpha testers) create best possible game for us. They have priorities what do they focus first and what do they develop first and next.

E.G. I think the new attrition system is horrible, but the point why it was made is good. Such zerg guilds as Phalanx or Porn Factory cannot zerg anymore and have to focus more with communication between BO defending and sieges. Will this system stay? NO. It will be either modified or removed. I could list issues why it's not viable but this is not the thread to do it.

People can QQ as much as they want, it doesent mean they are not grateful for this game and the work of devs. Also if you want to discuss it or whine, do it in right channel, not in /t4

Just to nitpick, this bit isn't entirely correct. To my knowledge, not a single member of the dev team has worked in the for-profit game industry. Some of the GMs have served as GMs in other games, and some members of the staff have made mods or managed servers/communities, but that's it. It's amateurs all the way down.

I think the team gets just the right amount of flak. Obviously constructive criticism is always better criticism, but there's something to be said for judging the merits of an idea by how much vitriol it generates (how severe and from how many people). That's not a metric you want to rely on, but it's useful.

I think one of the biggest things that hurts this project are players who assume any level of professionalism on our part - not because they'll be disappointed by constant bugs and poor performance, but instead because it implies that we know what we're doing and that we believe all of our ideas are good ideas. When you pay someone to do a job, you expect that they will do the best job possible, and they will know the right way to go about it. When someone assumes that we're going to do the right things in the best way, or even that we should, there's a risk that when we let them down they'll leave and not come back. They don't understand that this is an evolving project.

We've encountered a lot of entitlement, but I don't think an expectation that we know what we're doing is a form of it. It's... kind of the status quo. With anything in life, we assume that the people behind it know what they're doing and have a vested interest in making that thing better. That's not really the case here, and that throws a lot of people for a loop. You can't blame them, but it hurts when they become aggressive over it.

Even I do it. There's a guy who makes Warhammer mods for Civilization V, which I binged on for a while. I love his mods, but he puts out a new race/civ very very slowly, and every time he does, he comments that there are some races/unique traits/units he can't do without learning LUA. He's been making these mods and saying he can't do these things for years now, and I've raged at my monitor over it. "just **** learn LUA! Make these mods cooler! You've been complaining about not knowing LUA for longer than it would take to master it!" But that's not his job, and he's giving me a thing for free. It's hard to remember that sometimes.
