Ah... Who designed the best 2 RvR games to date ?
In the opinion of the many, it seems to be Mark Jacobs (WAR, Daoc). Why would he suddenly fail completely and design a garbage game ?
The minecraft part is awesome imo. It gets them lots of sub (aka, PvE minecrafters, tons of em on the Alpha forums) to support the core RvR players. Doing so they save millions of $ in the PvE creation (building design, city, villages, etc.) since the Minecrafters PvE people will enjoy building them. The RvR PvPers will enjoy trying to defend/destroy them. Win-win.
The only question I have is combat. So far through IT and Alpha, hasn't seen nothing interesting. Its slow and complicated, but it was a placeholder system to test the engine. When the real combat system is out, we'll have a better idea of what CU is about PvP wise.
Also, for anyone following for real, the game hasn't even been in development for 3 years atm (real dev started a while after kickstarter). Most MMO take 5+ years to ship... They still have time.

Re: Camelot unchained
i want the alien guy from tv to show up and go "Alpha", just because most games call an almost finished game alpha dosen't mean it is, this is a real alpha where the literal skeleton code is being done, why do expect a complete game by now, when it releases it will be done till then it's in production, now if you don't care about the type of game it is well then that's up to you, completely understand as a WAR fan this world seems less gritty, but as they say the truth is in the eye of the beholder

People will formulate their opinions. Personally I think it's the best hope we have for future RVR and PVP games. I see no chance for Crowfall. All my personal opinion. I think and open world sandbox with non mirrored classes and active crafting class could really be the trick for what people have been looking for. Not to mention their promise that we will get a completed game has me excited. Not sure why people keep saying the game will be released with incomplete features. I doubt it was ever his choice and it is one of their major promises which they have already proven by pushing back until they were ready.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the game. MJ has a proven track record of designing good RvR mechanics, so I feel my trust is fairly well-placed. We'll see how it pans out over the next year or so.
Biggest issue for me is that my guild (The Unnamed for those who remember) seem intent on rolling TDA, while I am much more interested in Vikings, both for general aesthetics and the class concepts revealed so far.

Re: Camelot unchained
MJ left due to the merge coz he wasn't on board with the changes they wanted to make. (Moast likly due to design changes that detatched RvR Scenarios and PvE from eachother and the campain)

Agreed, it's the only game I know that can support 600 characters on screen + thousands of trees and objects + real-object projectiles + hundreds of buildings + structure destruction at 30 FPS.Zintair wrote:People will formulate their opinions. If CSE gets the combat right (not the slow and clunky one shown on videos) it should be a lot of fun in large-scale battles.
