It pioneered an easily accessible-to-all game that incorporated elements of PvP, PvE, Roleplay and - above all - a social hub for people to make friends in. The developers were constantly talking with the playerbase and making changes - even small ones, such as the introduction of pets for younger players. Not so much pioneering but it makes a difference and is why the game is still around.
What has WAR pioneered? Or any current MMO? It all boils down to the oldies.[/quote]
as u said they made a easily accesible game . games incorporating pvp pve rp and social hub for people to make friends in were allready made .
developers where mostly pleasing players with nerfs to other classes and cry to the point its a standard for most players QQ in forums when they dont like a videogame feature because its either to hard or just piss em off .
War did not pionered much aside the pvp elements , as people said. stuff like pqs and instances where allready in other games such anarchy online and everquest 1 and asheron call.
and it was one of the iggest reason of his downfall
And then they say WAR released unfinished xD

Re: And than they say WAR released unfinished xD
War failed because EA rushed it out the door, people had waited for months for the game, at the time we were promised many things by the guy in the videos and they were not delivered on (ive still the orginal box and DVDs beside me)
There were suppose to be many more cities and all races and classes were suppose to be implemented @ release and they werent, My friend had picked his class many months b4 release and then he couldnt even play the class he wanted, it was quiet shambolic..... Mythic fed the information to the player base and then took half of it away from them
WAR at the time needed 1 more year, if they had got that it would have been massive
The attraction to WoW at the time was the fascination with the world, it was magical and mysterious, ill nvr forget the first time i approached Ironforge and saw the 2 dwarf statues
By the time War was released the magic and mystery had gone from WoW but the excellent endgame content kept hardcore players playing it full time, for War to have been a success it needed to be perfect and even then if u liked PVE War was nvr going to compete as a huge part of Wows player base, esp at the time was there for the raiding and pvped for fun
WAR lost more than half its play base and subscriptions in the first 6 months, ppl tried it but it was implemented horrible and it nvr recovered

Re: And than they say WAR released unfinished xD
The main reason why this game has 2 factions instead of 3 is moast likley coz of WoW.
When reading an old interview with Mark Jacobs after he left EA Myrhic he was asked why they did 2 factions instead pf 3. And he said that their intital plan and vison was to make this game for 3 factions. But it didn't sit well with exectives of Mythic.
Moast likley they wanted a game that was a close to WoW as possible.

Re: And than they say WAR released unfinished xD
IMHO, It was the players that killed WAR.
Examples;
Player Complaint (PC) ---
Mythic Response (MR)
PC- Game is too tough. It is too hard to lock a zone!
MR - took out (previous tier zone lock) (scenario points) (PQ points) (BO points) (Keep Points) (Kills)
Basically... DUMBED DOWN THE GAME
PC- Fortresses are too hard
MR- Took out Fortresses... DUMBED DOWN THE GAME (Note; Fortresses were brought back, in a new way, but by then game was dead)
PC- NEED NEW CONTENT!!!!
MR- LoTD introduced
PC- WE DONT LIKE IT!!!!
PC- WARLORD gear too OP
MR- SC weapons introduced to compensate..then we got...
PC- SC weapons TOO OP
PC- Sov Gear too hard to get
MR- Introduced Lower version of Sov and redesign of RvR campaign to BO's with resource carriers to make city easier ... DUMBED DOWN THE GAME again!!
Zergs became the only way to get to city...city sieges popped 10-12 times a day
PC- WE DON'T LIKE ZERGS- City too boring!
Mythic Response- Flipped us the bird and gave up ....
Basically, all the player complaints about it being too hard, about wanting to have equal gear on characters coming into t4 as old characters had, about everything being too hard, or (so called unbalanced) crap that did not matter .... Mythic just gave up. I would have too.
The best system this game has was between 1.5 or so.

Spoiler:
1- Game design was centered around a City Siege being the end game. This would be impossible with 3 factions.
2- 3 factions would have made WAR into a clone of DAoC. And not for nothing, I know DAoC has a cult following, but I HATED the 3 faction system, and still hate 3 faction systems to this day.

A professional video game developer's task is to create a game which appeals to as many people as possible. If there were complaints, those complaints were a clear indication that they were failing in this task. Trying to represent those complaints and the responses to them in a clearly biased way does not change the facts - and the demise of the game serves as proof that the complaints were justified.drmordread wrote:stuff
Game developers do not listen to fringe factions and tiny minorities. Any complaints they heeded were justified. The likely issue here is that the developer was so hamstrung by the publisher that they could not take the time to implement the correct redesigns and responses to the community's issues.
Lest we forget... the difficulty of persuading the developer that bombing was even a problem proves that they were not reactionaries.
