Well I've played around 6 hours of Mordheim today. Here's my review for anyone interested;

An excellent turn-based RPG/Strategy adaptation of the table-top Warhammer model Mordeheim. This game feels very atmospheric and true to the franchise, the art direction is suitably gritty yet gorgeous. That being said, the game does need some refinement - but thats what Alphas are for right?

The general flow of the battle can feel clunky at times, due to some small issues with pathing and combat initiation. Some turns feel a little awkward and slow as you control units with WASD and not with the mouse. Combat animations look good but lack variety. Spellcasters add an extra layer of strategy to your turns but lack battle presence and majesty. Granted i am not so familiar with the spellcasters of Mordeheim but i am very familiar with Warhammer Fantasy and the likes of the Bright Wizard.

Multi Player is where its at - if you can get a game going. Being Alpha, there are currently issues with connectivity, load times and the odd desync. I have played a few games and they were pretty awesome. The battles can take a while to get going as both sides map out their strategies and asess their opponents but once your Warbands collide the action picks up.

After some refinement, general optimization and tweaks to the flow and meta of Mordeheim i can see this becoming a *great* game. We have still yet to see the best parts too - looting, warband customisation, match making and unit progression. And im hoping the game files are moddable as this game will go down well within the modding community and Warhammer fans alike.

8/10.

Toss in a good, fun AI and it indeed could be a great game.

I need more real WHFB games.

Looks pretty good, but sadly, I can't afford it. I'll wait for Cyber Monday or until it hits the bargain bin.

Got it last weekend and i must say it's pretty awesome and (in my opinion) a very good adaption of the tabletop version... even though it's early access and there aren't many functions (experience, warband management, equipment, etc.) implemented yet it always gets me back for more... i find myself playing this gem at least once a day for a quick match since the different game setups are quite interesting and partially sometimes a little challenging.
now all we can do is wait and see how this game progresses since there are only two factions for now (mercenaries and skaven) and planned are only 4 yet but i hope they might implement many others (Reikland Warband DLC maybe? :D ) but like i said i love it how it is right now and it's worthy to bear the famous name of Mordheim
a must buy for every GW/WH-Fan

An interesting adaptation, great atmosphere, lots of tactical decisions.

The bad part for me: unfortunately AI turn takes lots of time. Usual mission takes me 30-40 minutes to complete when it could last half the time. Most of the time I see Stance animations or wait for the hidden enemies to complete their hidden movement.

If you have lots of time, like Mordheim, enjoy smart tactical skirmishes, go for it.

Yea, the WH DLC looks pretty damned cool. I am just more excited that they are continuing to work on the game!

Not gonna lie. After capping a Skaven and Merc warband I started to loose interest a bit. MP gets tedious, and w/o a dedicated group to maintain a WB with, just doesn't really feel worthwhile. And the SP gets to be a serious grind for very little discernable gain(outside of MP that is) Still login to grab some Wyrd every once in awhile though.

A great game. If they ever bring in VC/orcs/dwarves I might have to buy a couple extra copies and force my friends to play... 4-5 WBs(3 of which are pure human(merc/sister/WH, and with cult being mostly human only 1 non-hummie race) is kinda hard to expect people to get serious about though.

But god damn playing Skaven on this game is FUN!
