If you do not think that having your tank use guard and redirect damage is the MAIN objective for them to do... then you are hopeless. Your "knowledge" would be extremely disappointing.

I challenge you to play your 6man while having your tank not guard. LOL

I've seen more than a few CA premades get completely rekted BECAUSE their tank doesn't place guard and correctly redirect damage. The unguarded melee is immediately identified and immediately dispatched.

it is, without question, the MAIN objective. Any response to the latter is completely ignorant.
That's not their main objective, it's a mandatory practice for any tank in the '6man crowd'. The main objective for a tank in a 6 man group, is to be a good tank, not a mindless guardbot. Good tanks can 1. guard swap and 2. apply effective CC, both of which negate damage, while one does it in a direct way, the other does it in an indirect way. If you consider tanks to be fulfilling their 'main objective' just for using one of the most important abilities (aka activating it at the start of a SC/WB fight), I doubt your interpretation of the argument at hand is valid.

I think the main point here is a difference in semantics. Where bretin said the main point of a tank is not to redirect damage, yet also stating tanks are there to negate damage, makes this entire argument moot. You can hammer on and discredit him as much as you like for saying a certain thing, doesn't change the fact he is still deemed as one of the best and most knowledgeable players on RoR. Nitpicking solely for an ad hominem isn't very credible from your side.

Also, using CA's anecdotal mishaps as an example while bretin's in a different guild, lolwtf?

stopped at guard swap , loooooool , lets be honest , 900+ people playing this game , how many know how to guard swap effectively ? swapping guard is hard , lets face it , you have to know to who you should give it accordingly to situation , and that require your brain to analyse lots of element while on the battlefield , good luck with people now a day

@OP

I know guard may be the ability that defines the tank, but it doesn't mean that is all they do. Tanks provide by far the most on demand CC than any other archetype. Telling someone to just guard you and nothing else erases 90% of the class potential. Heals and dps are usually a given in most groups but having a great tank compared to a good tank isn't. Any idiot can just put a guard on someone and follow them around. It takes a good player to do more than that though... punting, kd, snares, etc. are all essential to making your group perform better.

I think the issue many people had was that the OP made it sound that there is never a situation to attack a tank, no matter what. People gave their reasons why that isn't necessarily the case. I was surprised that Bretin even posted so much info about the tank's potential and uses and would encourage people to read past the ego and learn some things for once. He as I of course left out some of the tank's other uses but that is a given due to the nature of competitive 6v6.

this is what the OP wrote
theseus wrote:Well, for the simple Reason, that tanks are quite sturdy, but mostly dont do real damage on their own. Their main objectiv is, to redirect damage from the DD and healers to themselves. So if you attack them before you take care of the others, you play right in their hands. Of course, you should differ between Off and Deff tanks. Offtanks do more damage than defftanks but are als easier to kill, so sometimes the first rule might not apply for them, it might be worth killing them quick. But for the most cases, first kill the healers, then the DD and then, take yout time with the Tanks, you will need it.
ffs - try reading. points like "Of course, you should differ between Off and Deff tanks....so sometimes the first rule might not apply for them, it might be worth killing them quick."

My god - reading is lost on people. Aggy just wrote a response telling the OP he gave no exceptions. When in-fact - he literally GAVE exceptions.

Magter, I dont deny anything of what you wrote in the first half of your post, and I never did. That was never my point. My point was that this dont mean, you kill the tank first, because thats much harder than killing the DD and healer first.
