Don't get me wrong I am sure there are varying degrees of bombing skill; but as a whole it is a montonous playstyle that reaps maximum reward for little risk and user input.
But that would just be your opinion. I personally find 6v6 extremely boring myself. Assisting, kiting, assisting, running away, assisting, chasing, assisting, kiting some more, zzzz. But I'm not going to tell you that what you love to do "requires no skill".
I don't know how many times you need to told Razid. Last chance.

Anyone claiming melee training takes any more skill than bombing is being purposefully specious

I guess no one can make that claim as 100% truth. But one can talk about their personal experiences.

In my case (and our premade) we only bomb when the other side is zerging and we have some people that need renown. Chosen/Choppa/Sorcs/heals, and use Chop Fasta + Infernal Wave spam. We easily clear our keep even with AAO, and i am only spamming one skill. I don't even need to target anyone. I don't care about guarded enemies. I don't need to assist anyone in my group, and i don't even need heal debuffs. It is incredibly easy.

If we were running a ST melee train, we would need to use postern doors, carefully pick targets, kite, use CC (checking out for immunities), check enemy guard, assist each other, and tanks must be pro. Is this hard? Ok, maybe it isn't that hard. Let's say this is pretty easy to do. But even so, to me, it requires more coordination (skill?) than just spamming Infernal Blast whenever i have Chop Fasta buff.

Personal opinion.

Even the very small fact that you have to manually target enemies makes st assist more difficult. Penril covers it nicely. No idea how people who never engage in st assist/6mans can comment on them, while those of us commenting on bombing actually have dabbled with it.

Yes, target selection is more important in 6 vs 6. No one is saying otherwise. Coordinated movement is more important in wb vs wb. In a 6 vs 6 you can move as you see fit without getting bodyblocked. In a wb 24 people should move, and otherwise act, as one. This is more difficult in a wb than in a 6 man. In particular it requires a very good leader to be succesfull. Also, of course bombing is easier than ST versus large numbers. That's the point of bombing. I personally feel that the state of RvR on this server cannot be compared to live and, thus, bombing (mainly) pugs cannot be compared to 20+ guild/alliance wbs in the same zone, on coms with best gear and pots as it was on live in its prime.

Assisting is an inherent and fundamental aspect in every single PvP game that has ever come into existence. #justsaying

OT: I feel that giving the WL pet an aoe detaunt that it can maintain regularly would be a step in the right direction: would mean that people trying to focus the lion would have to spend 5-ish seconds on trying to kill it (which seems about fair to me, as opposed to the 1/2 atm), alleviating pressure on actual players and allowing the order side to focus another target while the enemy kills the poor kitty

Stop argueing what takes more skill....
They both play very simular, Bombing assist a zone rather then a single target. You need to stack AoE in one spot for it to be damaging. You still need to locate this zone were your bomb does the moast dmg to the oposing team. Single target assist does exactly the same thing but instead of targeting a zone they target a player. The amount of abillties used has nothing to do with skill. Bomb dps have their rotation and ST have their rotation. Skill is much more about using your situationals in the right moment and the right location. Something both groups need to do.

A bomb pug wb can perform reasoably well out of the box while a pug 6man probably needs to play the same group for a couple of months before winning their first 6v6 vs somthing that counts.

The diff imo is the quality of the opposition
A reasonable RvR system that could make the majority happy http://imgur.com/HL6cgl7
