Can we discuss this tactic? During keep defenses, I've almost exclusively been told to use this tactic. I've read on the forums, however, that people think this tactic is terrible.

It actually depends. If you have 8 tanks and 4-8 DPS using their raze+whatever aoe dmg morale they have, then you can forget about shield wall. But thats all part of how well organized and good communicating your warband is i'd say. As a 'random pugger' without much talk, you can always take shield wall if you feel that youre dying too fast or whatever

it depend from the situation and how many tanks can be killed+ress with out the wall collapse and also how they are set up, not al tank are set full avoidance and anyway moral damage bypass anything so it's really composition dependand and it also matter how much aoe damage you have, since all work around creat a wall of damage that no one can pass throught.

on outer door shield wall/funnel is very effective, as the attackers hinder themselves through the tunnel and stand very long in the aoe. but it needs good healers especially group heal and enough different aoe defenders as same type aoe doesnt stack.

order uses shield wall! -It's frickin effective!
They were a must have back in the days but somehow the ancient technique of the dwarfen ancestors was forgotten...
in lower tiers (tier 2 and maybe also tier 3) the def tanks are not nearly as strong as in t4. (t4 deff tanks are unbreakable)
So in the lower tiers you can only use the well quipped tanks (only DEF tanks! shield is a must).
but I would say a nice shield wall is always pretty strong as long as your tanks are tanky enough, so the healers can easily keep them alive.
if they rotate with this super strong tanky special ability, that gives you and your allies behind you a dodge and disrupt bonus, you should be fine keeping dat doorway closed.
BUT: tank walls can be destroyed by punting the tanks away.(maybe thats the reason why ppl dont like it, idk)
so you better have a hand full of those deftanks piled up behind that darn gate!
I really dont know why people dont like them, and im sure some of them will come up with some theories why tank walls might not be that good and so on and so forth...
But these people are behaving like those long legged elven academics in their gallant robes themselves! hahahaa!
They know nothin how good a fine handcrafted tankwall can be! be smart and dont listen to them and move your arses into that doorway! And those Keeps may never fall!

Pug vs Pug it has its uses (tbh anything could work in pug vs pug).
However versus anything semi-organized a tankwall will either drop within 2 seconds (morale 2/4 dump) or become exposed isolated and killed off (rift/magnet/GttC).
I know I put it out of context abit here but basically a tankwall is the maginot line. It creates no pressure whatsoever, but does give the enemy the chance to wait, analyze and apply pressure (building morale / pulling).
However versus anything semi-organized a tankwall will either drop within 2 seconds (morale 2/4 dump) or become exposed isolated and killed off (rift/magnet/GttC).

There was no chance of victory and everything seemed lost. even the last piece of hope was gone when the gate fell down in a loud crash. But two dwarfen Iron breakers where walking into that doorway, and with the power of a thousand men in their shields, they held the line until even the last of the greenskin scum was slaughtered by black powder and steel.
Thats how it was! One of the finest shieldwall i have seen in my life!
So dont tell me that a tankwall can be crushed by those fools that call themselves "the forces of destruction"!
Hahah, i can only laugh at those who believe they can break one of my walls!

but to keep it real: even in a premade vs premade fight, a good tankwall with very good equipped defensive tanks is nearly indestructable. (im talking bout tier 4 right now) havent played a tank in lower tiers for a while i can only talk of the fights "back in the days". even if 4 players hit their morals on def tanks (two dd and two tanks- still talking bout premades). a well organized group is pretty tough to break, if the healers stay save!
