Class Advice Please

On live I played an AM until I was my mid 40's and then I had several alts that were mid teens through early 20's. Problem is, its been so long that the game is somewhat new to me again and I don't know what to play. On other MMOs I love healing and tanking because I like to pve. Then again my main in WOW for 8 years was a shadow priest who became a healer with the current xpac. But this game is a lot more about pvp so I'm thinking dps instead. What's a good dps class to play?

Mind you I'm trying to stay Order but will play Destro with my cousin every so often too.

DPS AM is like a shadow priest yeah, so you'll enjoy it. The only downside to playing one, is you take up a healer spot in the match making mechanics for scenarios, and you will possibly get bitched at by pugs, win or lose.

There's not a lot of mystery to the classes. If you want to stay ranged, which I recommend for new players or people with lag, your best choices are bright wizard or shadow warrior. I would avoid engineer and the other order classes until you've had some fun and get the game more. The destro mirror to those are sorcerer and squig herder.
Word of Pain and Boiling Blood are no longer able to proc anything. The Bright Wizard College has confirmed this is a big deal. (stealth nerf)

What would you recommend for a melee dps class?

Roll a tank. Your survivability lets you live long enough to actually learn something.
"I came, I saw, I ran away"

"My RvR experience improved by 100% after I spent 50 renown points in Improved Flee and Cleansing Wind!"
- Average order player

What about a White Lion? Are they viable dps?

I suggest trying every class that interests you. The game is free and developer team will appreciate if you find any bugs. If you have ping problems then stay away from melee, but if not then try them all.

Sure, but be aware you have a pet. The pet is actually pretty strong, but sometimes annoying. WL are not as strong in AOE situation compared to slayer.

White Lion is pretty easy to play. Managing the pet is a little different than other classes, but since you have a way to close the gap that's always available, it's less frustrating than other classes. I'd recommend it as a way to start.

Find a guild 1st then let them help you decide what you should play based on what they need etc...

The absolute worst advice anyone can give a new player is to play MDPS, it is the MOST agonizing experience ever if you are all on your own.

Try a tank class you still can get some killing blow which makes you feel better and you will be much more durable.
