Project Status and Focused Testing?

Hi guys,

After nosing around the site a little, I've come to notice testers are somewhat 'in the dark' on what we should be working on and the overall status of the Alpha. There is a bugtracker, and known bugs, but there doesn't appear to be a focus point or focused testing.

I am a long standing member of another EMU project, the SWGEMU project for Star Wars Galaxies, who have a pretty solid team receiving regular donations for things like server upkeep and general overheads. They are also very good at keeping testers in the light. For example, here is their Project Status List which serves as a basic way to show testers the overall development progress of individual game aspects.

They also post 'Weekly Updates' which show us what certain developers have been working on and their progress, whether positive, negative or neutral, and their commits to the server. I notice you are very good with changelogs any way.

Roadmaps also serve as a good way to give testers and developers alike an overview on total progress and development.

ROR: I understand we are locked to T1 for now, which will help greatly with regards to focused testing. But is there somewhere we can look to see what's being worked on, what needs work and what we should be testing or for that matter, breaking?

I notice on the bugtracker there are a lot of bugs that have already been submitted, some multiple times. Most of these i have encountered myself, yet they remain 'unassigned' to any developers. Should we assume no-one has had time, or are these specific bugs already being worked on or simply insignificant/low priority for now?

If you are interested in creating these sort of write ups for the community, my general literacy is pretty good when I want it to be. I'm sure I can spare a few hours a week. And I'm sure if you have any questions regarding emulator projects, the people at SWGEMU would be happy to lend a hand too.

Lastly, have you thought about opening donations like this for the project or are they not necessary at this point?

Well, thank you all for your hard work and dedication to bringing back WAR. I'm going to look into other ways I can help out around here. I personally cannot wait for ROR and will be logging in to test regularly for the project. :)

P.S Looking into this 'database developer' position too. Although im not sure how much use i will be!

I searched a lot for a snapshot of dev.
Something like all things implemented, those in development etc.

Maybe they need some help for that... or some time !

There used to be a large list of all areas progress but I think they took that off for now as they are just focusing on T1 atm. I can see how it would still be interesting to see one but it's not really necessary. There is probably someone link to the old one kicking around somewhere which would give you a good idea of how much more is really needed.

It's enough when people report bugs in Bugtracker - we can check these Bugs and fix them.

I understand you and think that would be great too but it only costs time. We have no large team and everyone do this in his spare time. So when we would write all these reports no one would have the time to fix something.

We know these bugs and when we are able to fix them we will fix them. But first we concentrate on the bugs with high priority. / Class Mechanics / Combat Formula ...

There were many discussions about donations. No need to start a new discussion about it :)

As far as I am aware from previous discussions regarding donations they are not possible. The reasons why is from fear that the server will be forcibly shut down by the owners of the games code (EA) and intellectual property (Gamesworkshop). Basically if they saw their property yielding a profit to individuals not licensed to use said property, regardless of how money was received or spent, they could easily shut the developers down with threats of a lawsuit.

I could be wrong in say that but I believe that is the reason donations have not been allowed.

So don't advertise for donations. Just give a few people the devs Paypal details in a PM. I'm never going to pay you scum for illegally hosting GW's own game, flagrantly ignoring international law like the hard-bitten, born criminals you are...

... but I'm an otherwise very charitable person who just enjoys spreading the wealth, especially to random hobbyist programmers. I'm just weird like that :)

That isn't going to fly either. In fact, merely suggesting such a thing drops an air of suspicion.
