I had the read only problem that most people seem to have, but after fixing that I receive the following message. It lets the game open anyway, but there are no buttons to login to the server or create a character or anything like that.

Re: Can't create character
I found the fix for this in an older thread. Very simple.
For anyone else with this issue, this is what you do to fix it....
1. Go to start, and type in the search box "cmd". Right click cmd, and run as administrator.
2. Type in the command console, "cd c:\windows\system32", and hit enter.
3. Then type "lodctr /r", and hit enter.
