if a wipe is needed, is it possible that the characters are wiped out but still remain? would hate to see people doing ye olden Name Grab and people not being able to run there old Live name etc.

I am pretty sure they can just reset everyone to lvl 1 renown 0. As this has been a penalty before for players.

Yep ive seen that before too with a certain someone on order a while back ;p
Just wondered, because if it was like a litteral wipe across the board, id pay for heads up notice so I can spam recreate my toons and of course the few placeholders for old Live guildies.


as for my personal view on the subject. Im interested in a full wipe (toons and names/guild names remaining) as I think it would re invigorate the existing players, and make it easier for new players to get started.

Yeah just thinking about having to level up crafting again and gearing up my chars is making me hella hyped.

Well, depending on the duration I would probably make an alt of every class hehe. I love playing alts. I have only been here for <2 months and already have a 35 Knight, 35 SM, and now working on my 25 Chosen along with an 18 AM...

So that type of thing appeals to me and I would just keep rerolling alts as long as the duration required it, and I think it would actually promote more gameplay as more people would have higher level alts and would be more interested in actually carrying them forward and possibly even swap them to mains. Not to mention @ T4, if you have different roles I would wager people wouldnt hesitate to swap depending on party need...

Just (to me) seems like a way of accomplishing the same thing and more without having any real negative backlash as those who dont want to do alts would probably just take a "break" for a week or maybe just PVE farm where as I bet the majority of the player base would reroll since it appears most of the population here is more than willing to help test things!

you might be the first person I have heard say this. Most of the "existing players" who have been around for a while told me straight up they would quit immediately. I understand the sentiment of "this is an alpha, dont get too attached" its also hard to NOT get attached since there are literally hundreds if not a thousand+ hours some people have spent on characters... I think that any game that does a wipe ends up losing players who may want to stay and play but the thought of re-doing everything they have already done is frankly a little depressing.... Especially if the means can be accomplished via another way that doesnt require it.

Locking off tiers is a good idea. I need to put this in big words, so nobody mistakes it and thinks I'm saying there will be a wipe: You'll notice I use the words "might" a lot when discussing a wipe, because it's not guaranteed that it would be our chosen course of action when some scenario arises. The scenarios themselves in which a full wipe would even be considered are still hypothetical. It's not something we've discussed internally with any degree of seriousness.

But it is always going to be an option on the table, and the community should understand that they are playing a demo to help us develop the baseline version of the game. We're not Mythic; we don't care about subscription numbers, we don't have a financial obligation to our players. If they want to quit because they don't like our decisions, it doesn't matter to us in the slightest. We'd still be here if nobody else was, making the best game we can.

So I get a bit touchy when someone implies that could try to hold their participation hostage against the results of a decision we were weighing. Both that it would even be a possibility, or that we should care. For perspective, it's functionally the same with someone threatening to quit ("suggesting they might") unless we implement RR100 and Warpforged.

So its safe to assume that you guys are taking the "wait and see" approach and just focusing right now on what you can do to make this game shine?

It sounds like anything that necessitates a wipe would probably be a "dire" situation however since we cant know how this game will unfold, you dont want to take it off the table?

Almost like saying "ill never own a yacht" but I shouldnt say that because... you know... Bill Gates could always name me his primary beneficiary or something

That's accurate. There could be a confluence of events that make wiping the most attractive option, however unlikely that might be. For the moment, we're still developing content, and we need most of our players/testers testing that content.

Leveling sucks, t1-3 is basically a gigantic **** tutorial, just nuke them after t4 comes out tbh :^)
