So I'm about to roll a new alt, and what I've been wanting to play is a melee. The two classes that I'm leaning towards is Swordmaster and White lion. As the title says, I want some advice in what to roll, and I would gladly like to know the pros and the cons with theese to classes, PvP wise. Bare in mind that I want the pros and the cons for the Swordmaster to be in a 2hnd dps(ish) perspective.
This would be much appreciated since I'm still pretty new to WAR and so far I've only played Warrior Priest and Squig Herder, so I'm don't have much knowledge of other classes.
Any tips & advice is welcome!
Regards

Re: Swordmaster vs White Lion - Pros and cons
New players should stay away from MDPS unless you have a guild or group of friends willing to support you, or at least that is some piecemeal advice I would always give.
SM is really good right now, doing probably more damage than any tank has any right to be doing and the stat steal is extremely potent right now with how it's interacting with the low ini values of t3. With some love from the devs it should also perform well in t4 unlike it did on live.
Playing a tank, especially on order will make you more valuable to in respect to guilds or just getting into groups in general. No one is going to want to pick up a random WL.

Thanks for the quick answer.
Well I'm new, but still not new.. I never played on live but I have been playing a Grace wp here for quite some time. But as I said, i still don't know a whole lot about other classes, therefore the need of advice!
As a SM, is Khaine/Hoath the way to go or can one go full Khaine with Ether dance?

Some people swear by WW, but I feel like the extra points you get in the stat steal atm going ED spec might hold an edge over it for now. Either spec is very strong, read that thread and make a decision for yourself.
The problem with playing MDPS is you need to have support from healers and at least a guard who can peel for you... solo queuing on a MDPS is pure hell.

Hoeth. The reason being is that ether dance requires a 2hander, making you lose the important shield bonuses.
If you're going to run the swordmaster remember your role. Tanking is about damage mitigation and CCs. In oRVR don't get too caught up trying to kill people but keep your eyes open for enemies out of position to snare, friends that need help for punting/snaring/challenge, and stuff like that. As a tank you have to read the situation.

Re: Swordmaster vs White Lion - Pros and cons
With SM you go into the frontline with your 2H and hammer away while getting hammered at. If running ahead and taking it is your thing, then go for SM. There are usually enough healers around and you only need to ask for Resistance Buff to get your Spirit/Corp/Elemental protection up, and Armor Buff from WP is always the thing to have, too, of course! You do a lot of burst spirit-dmg, unless you go for off-hand tank with shield, but forget about full tank with SM, its not supposed to do that job.
WL instead goes for 2h-critting and close combat while sending the lion off to eat things up. You are not as tough as SM but you're not supposed to get hammered at by a couple of enemies at the same time anyway; if you don't crit-dps-kill your target and go for the next one in the shortest amount of time then something is wrong anyway (this may take a while until you have enough crit stacked, of course). Having guard is probably the thing, too, but I haven't played WL too much to say as how much that changes gameplay (at least I give WL guard as SM when there's one around).

SM is designed around 2H combat as frontliner. Shield-Tank is optional and only really useful as off-hand tank in pve. You'll never be as good as a full tank, like IB, for example. So for burst spirit-dps path of Khaine is the best, with Hoeth being optional, but rather for using shield.Ninepaces wrote:Hoeth. Dont listen to them! We have a bazillion tanks on Order. Play a WL. All destro claim they are one of the two most OP classes in the game (next to slayers) yet I never see them on....
Roll WL, stick with it and SHRED THEM UP!
Destro fear guarded WLs, partner up with a tank and get him to guard you and youll be money!
