I think part of the problem is not a difference in expectations regarding the pricing, it's a difference in expectation on how long someone should have a character in each tier. In other words, if it takes 6 hours to level out of T2, and when you leave you only have 70 emblems, and no scenario weapons/gear, is the problem that the weapons/sets are too expensive, or is the problem that you got out of T2 in only 6 hours?
The problem is, that an individual can barely get their armor/weapons, and if they do, it's just about the time they get out of that tier. So you don't actually enjoy being at the top of your tier, you are just preparing to not get absolutely **** faced slaughtered in the next tier. This has been sort of fixed with the new tier level caps, but it will go back to being the way it always was once t4 is out. Why should I struggle to barely be able to get my gear by the time i'm out of the tier? Half the time you don't. I had toons that hit 12 and din't have their t1 armor set. I gave up on doing the t2 armor set. t3 is nice because there is a level cap, you don't have to worry about leveling out, eventually you will get the gear. As soon as t4 releases, there will be atleast a bit of balance for a while. Until people start hitting rr60+ and then all of the fresh 40s coming in will be extremely easy kills. There should be some balance about gear, the higher levels are more powerful anyway with extra abilities and renown. It's really not fun to play when you get 2-3 shot by everyone and you can't do damage to anyone. I can't express how many times I just sat back on my with hunter when I first entered t3. and you HAVE to do scenarios for your stalker gear, so you can be relevant. There is no reason to remove medallions from SCs, it just creates a bigger gap in balance.

Okay my rant is over. I'm sure i'll get flamed for this post.

I agree with the above post, to some extent. Levelling up, I felt gear wasn't terribly difficult to come by. Influence+emblems/medallions and world drops were sufficient, IMO. It helps that most people seem to take the same viewpoint, so other than twinks, everyone is generally at the same level of "not all that geared yet." Upon hitting t3 on my Chosen, I felt basically useless until around level 30-31, which was when I finally got some decent gear. Even abandoning my beloved 2her for sword and board didn't help much.

But I think that's just part of MMOs in general. You reach end-game, you kind of have to just take your lumps for a while until you can compete. It's easier for some classes than others, I imagine: as a tank, I at least still Guard and Challenge and CC. As a healer, you still heal. DPS get shafted a bit since your only function is damage, and its hard to accomplish that when so undergeared relative to other people in the WB/scenario.

After catching up with this... Geno are the stop Exp Books an option? Seems most people want to stay in lower tiers longer. Sorry if this question has been posed before

Well, your question was answered. Want medallions? Go RvR in the lakes. If nobody is RvRing, do Scenarios, go play another game. Fix a burger, pet your cat.
Yeah exactly, playing another game or doing something else will be your only choice to gear out if your play time coincides with a time period that there isn't a regular WvW population.

Of course that is a bit self defeating when it comes to trying to grow the population during that time period if the resolution is to go play another game or logout and do something else.... but what do i know.
What you could know, is that this is an ALPHA PHASE game, as it says so at the top of every page here. The population grows the more updates we introduce, people always check back to see what's new and we get an influx of new players each time a new zone/pairing/tier/level cap is unlocked; usually filling the server capacity for a few days at those times. The fact that our playerbase eventually drops a tad due to balancing development decisions, is to be expected with how many players we actually regain and continue to gradually gain more of with every bit of content that gets re-introduced and tweaked accordingly.

This entire medal droprate issue is going to become irrelevant when keeps rewards by PQ bag get reintroduced, pretty much. Just give it some TIME. If you cannot enjoy this game's grand-scale PvP due to the lack of players in your timezone, I can only tell you it's going to take a while before we get a decent enough population in the end-game at every hour of the day, which basically boils down to; you SHOULD come back at a later date to play this game, once it's in an actual playable state in the grand scheme of things. Currently, we are still in development.

When we finally get out of Alpha, and make it to the final stage I hope they do a character wipe, like every mmo after Alpha, Beta, and when it makes it to final stage .

I always have to laugh about people complaining about powergaps, when this is exactly what they wanted in a dozen tier bracket discussions.

What would getting rid of the SC weapons do to help anything?

I don't want to PvE for a decent weapon, I avoided the PvE on Live for a reason.

Medallion rate is pretty abysmal for sure, specially in NA, but getting loot chests in keeps will go a long way to helping that out.

I don't know about T3 yet but at least in T2 there's some decent action goin on lately. Probably not as much as European times but eh, getting there.

This is exactly what i was referring to but i would say that there is a clear target for when those weapons and sets are aimed for, the rank they require, currently, a rank 8, leveling through scs and kill quests, cant afford both set and weapons and imo, they should be able to.

Genisaurus wrote:When you approach it like this, I can say we have never really looked at the question of how much time/effort it should take to level out of any given tier. We don't have a roadmap. It's a question we keep hand-waving an answer to until we're at a place where the game feels comfortable, whenever that might be.

But like I said, when you look at it as a question of how much time you should be spending in a given tier - how many scenarios you can run, how many keeps you can take, etc. - we don't have an answer. When it comes to influence requirements/emblem or medallion costs, we're just copying numbers those from live, but our rewards are vastly different. .
And this is why i was saying there wasnt thought put into them, i mean, i can see why would you get offended by it but that was the point i was trying to bring up, the numbers are there but if as you say they are just a copy from live i can see why they are so off.

This brings again my problem with it, both weapons and gear should be obtainable for someone who purely did scs and kill quests at the rank they are available and if not, not later than 1-2 ranks after it, the whole set, is this concept something that you are against? Not saying you are but just trying to find what should be the minimum effort/reward ratio for them, i think dedicating yourself to scs only with the aid of kill quests (your only source of income) should be plenty enough.

And as i said i have no problem giving you data on chars i level up through that method to show you what a player has at those ranks so you can adjust the prices.

On live you got enough currency (+set drops and keep loot) by the time you reach the required rank by actively doing rvr/sc.
Keep chests will solve the biggest issues but item prices like on live should be the final result.

Dude read his posts again, he already explained that he tried to make a change and someone else higher in the developer hierarchy turned him down.
