Self Punts on RoR vs Live

On live, the self punt abilities (for SW, SH, WE and WH) worked differently then how they are implemented on RoR. Each of the self punts have a cast time.

On live, the direction of the punt would be determined once the cast animation completed. This would allow you to pan your camera mid cast in order to change what direction you would land.

In RoR, the punt direction appears to be determined at the time of cast. Camera pan during the cast has no effect on the punt direction.

Is this an intended difference? Will it be implemented the same way on the WH/WE?

I hope it is not like live where you could pan the camera and make your toon appear in a different spot than he/she actually was.

I think this is what the OP actually wants... I personally hope it isnt exploitable as it was on live
I think what he's asking is for a more dependable self punt, like on live. Took me months to get used to how self punt works in RoR compared to Live. :?

I am not asking for anything actually. I just wanted to know if it was intentionally different and if will be the same way for WE/WH.

I think you're all out of luck, because the RoR implementation might be different from the live version.

When I checked the logs for Declare Anathema, Agile Escape and other self punt abilities, I noticed they don't send the packet F_KNOCKBACK, which is used on offensive knockbacks. This suggests that the mechanism was different and RoR is using the wrong one.

However, I can say that the direction is NOT determined at the time of cast - it's determined by your rotation when the command executes, which is some time after the punt begins casting.

Unless the original mechanism, if different, is discovered, this is how it'll be and there's nothing to be done about that, sorry.

Thanks for looking into this. I knew the self punt was operating differently in RoR but I couldn't pin down how right away. The mechanism you are describing is how I remember the ability operating on live but is different from my experience in RoR.

In my experimentation in RoR, it is pretty clear that the punt seems to be firing in whatever direction you are facing at the time of cast and camera pan has no effect. That might be a result of lag rather than a different mechanic though.

Anyhow, something seemed off and there is much less control over the self punt. I was just curious if this was an intentional change.

It was quite important for WE/WH to catch people and counter punts for sure by turning the jump towards the targets. Will see how it will end up being then.

Not to pile on, but, does anyone else think pounce distance is a lot further than it was on live? It use to take a WL 2 pounces to get to me typically with my normal positioning on my sorc. In RoR I feel like they are all getting to me in 1 jump. Maybe I just need to get good.
Word of Pain and Boiling Blood are no longer able to proc anything. The Bright Wizard College has confirmed this is a big deal. (stealth nerf)

I'm more interested, will self-punts damage you when punting yourself from great heights?

Pounce on live was bugged so that's prolly why it took two pounces to get to you. On live it would use up ap even if a pounce was not performed which is one of the reasons WLs weren't as good as they are right now.
