You're assuming I'm suggesting every person goes 50/50 AOE and ST. What I am suggesting is balancing AOE so people obtain equal benefits from going AOE or ST, rather than the current situation where everyone goes AOE.

In T3 there are not as many counters to bombing and morale bombing in general. In T4 there were ways to strip morale, group anti CC, and a lot more going on under the hood than just stacking AoE spec'd BWs / Sorcs / SL / Choppas and so on.

A big part of being successful in bigger fights, WB vs WB, and being able to fight continually and successfully was knowing how to counter bomb, with either strips, CC, or defensive morales.

I do not think that bombing is a problem for the game. I think bombing is in fact vital for the game. If you nerfed the hell out of AoE and morales, all that you are going to do is create a situation where great numbers always win.

It is because of AoE and bombing that you can take on 2-3 other warbands when you have good positioning and setup and win. If you don't like that, I can understand, but it's the reason that you can actually do this, that a lot of people love playing WAR. It is not something you can find in many games.

dont forget its 1.200 UNMITIGATED dmg. This is really a lot.

The problem i see: We need different means to take defended keeps then if you nerf aoe/bombing in generall. Even now Avelorn Keep is nearly untakable due to the long tunnel on first wall. It just gets into a stalemate.

One way would be DAOCS aproach will LONG unbreakable CC, but i guess nowadays player comunity isnt ready for that anymore ^^

Here is an idea that could give more options to take keeps and counter the AoE or avoid the small areas being pelted with AoE. Can't judge if it's good or bad idea overall, but I'll throw it in here all the same.
Essentially, it is a variation to the melee DPS ability to bypass postern doors. There'd be a NPC on the inside of the doors, one that is too tough for a single mDPS to handle, but 2-3 can kill it. Whoever is in the party of the character delivering the killing blow will have a 10-15 sec to bypass the door like mDPS can. This way a group with a few mDPS can get a full party inside, complete with healers and tanks, which can wreak havoc among the defenders inside, and kill or at least distract the AoE groups on the wall. Or just get slaughtered quick and forced to respawn, depending on how the defenders act. While a group of mDPS can do this already, with tanks and healers inside, they'd have more survivability. Since bypass effect is shared on killing blow, it can't get more than one party inside, and with a long (2-5 mins) respawn timer on the NPC, it can't be done very often. The NPC could be that orange colored nonhostile variety so mDPS can still enter solo without being attacked on sight and slaughtered. This way defenders would need to keep an eye on/defend more than one ways into the keep, or risk being flanked; on the other hand, the enemy has to kill the strong NPC and fend off the defenders at the same time to get their team inside, so defenders still have an advantage. This idea is mostly for the outer walls, by the way.

On live, didn't the rat ogres have a way to throw people onto keep walls? I'm not saying bring back skaven maybe the worst update, but offered another way into a keep being held by a guild wb.
