Every friend I've tried to get to come back to this game has given it 2 weeks and quit. These are people who used to play on live and people I have been playing MMOs and other games with for years.
Some people have a great experience, but none of my friends have, nor have I.
T1 is mostly okay, because its.. t1
t3 is a mixed bag, mostly balanced in scenarios, but orvr can be painful, players treat you like you're sub-human at times, because you dont contribute enough to matter unless you are a healer or maybe a tank.
t4 is where it gets very... unfun often.
The population imbalance is bad most of the time.
It's going to be really hard to fix this issue without breaking the ability to switch factions when you want to (even with orvr lockout).
Some ideas:
1) Incentivize players playing the low pop sides before they participate in ORVR. A big bonus. ORVR lockout should be 3-4 hours for those who take the bonus maybe to limit abuse?
2) cr40 RR sub 60, is a bad experience. You feel way too useless for way too long. High RR players with better gear shouldn't mean you have a 1-5% chance of beating them. Skill should account for more and the gap between rr60 and rr80+ should be lessened for the health of the game. And yes, some players will say that they had a different (and better) experience. Everyone I know has the experience I have, and people I don't know have this experience. So it's really not fine, and probably a good reason people don't play long-term if they arent already masochists or already high RR.
I love RoR and I think the devs here did a better job than Mythic did by far! This is one of my favorite MMOs for many reasons, but certainly not the abusive behaviour that the level gap brings. I would like to see more people stay. I want more people to enjoy the game. Even if it means when I do get RR80 I dont absolutely destroy people. That's not fun for anyone imo
Thank you for what you do. I know it's a free game, so I'm not really "complaining" just pointing out some of the problems that I witness and why I can't get people to play the game.
Love the game, hate the balance.

Re: Love the game, hate the balance.
The players and the zerg mentality which are the problem, on each map its the same, an ebb and flow between the warcamps and frankly it sucks and if you are lower level and outside top end gear you melt.
The realm swap lockout is now just fine, swapping to the weaker side is no longer prevented only swapping to ride the zerg is.

I dont know how they can make people split up and cover the map again, changing peoples mentality is not an easy thing to do.

problem is many, especially at 80+rr, lose nothing from swapping side. they are capped so why they should care? Some ideas:

say thanks to those devs who tought that pitting fresh level 16 against full sov players in rvr was a cool idea!2) cr40 RR sub 60, is a bad experience. You feel way too useless for way too long. THANK YOU DEVS! <3say thanks to those devs
If you're talking about 1v1, yeah, a lowbie will never beat a full BiS character. But this game isn't balanced around 1v1
Very easy to play a CR16 with full bolster if you don't try to frontline the entire warband and hang back.
Obviously, the new player onboarding experience should be smoother, there's a lot of work left for that. But you can't help when new people immediately get into the echo chamber of these forums and blame the devs for everything

Re: Love the game, hate the balance.
Midtier should have its own RvR Lakes, which would be t2 and t3 maps. These maps are simply way too small to be playable with full t2-4 players. Look at Troll Country for a proper example of the mess the merging of populations creates.
Then t4 players would only play in t4 zones. This way midtier players can experience fairer RvR, while t4 becomes less over-crowded. This would already provide an improvement regarding the blob issue.
Upon reaching rank 40, midtier players would already have a decent Renown Rank, as instead of being forced to level up through scenarios to avoid high RR players, they would get to do proper RvR
The argument that midtier would end up being dead empty is an argument I disagree with, I think a fair amount of players simply quit the game because of the gear gap they are confronted with upon reaching rank 16, and also current players most likely avoid building more alts so that they do not have to endure once more this painful and tedious process of going through fully merged RvR with a midtier character.
I know I do not participate in any midtier RvR myself because facing rr70+ players makes it a pointless experience. Having midtier lakes however would solve this problem and make building alts more interesting, while making it easier to retain new players

This game isn't balanced
Re: Love the game, hate the balance.
devs say they wont make t3 rvr because there isnt enough players for t3, while ignoring the fact thats the exact reason for the lack of players. how many threads have been made over the years, each and every reading exactly same "i/my friends played the game and had great fun t1 then quit @ 16"
Re: Love the game, hate the balance.
On the live server you had an exp stop so you could stay in t2/3 forever.
I bet a lot of players would love that here too.
