This will probably be unpopular but, oil should affect both sides. Maybe half damage to the side pouring the oil.

Its self explanatory, it's hot oil. Both sides have tanks that can deflect oil. The pouring side can take half damage if under the oil and less if tanks deflect it.

Then all AOE in game must affect both side, right? Like, if you mindlessly swinging weapons around - you may cut your friends to, not only foes! Also what about engis aoe, it looks very hot, must it do dmg to both sides to? And what about maguses storm, the warp energy dont have any friends, so it must do dmg to everyone around, right?
Oh, w8, we playing GAME with GAME MECHANICS, things here is not like in real life (surprise).

This isn't about all other aoe. This is regarding oil only. Im not going to fall for your straw man arguments of all aoe. Tanks have the ability to deflect oil. This helps their respective side.
I completely understand it's not real life. Yet some logic should dictate. Like RA being reduced to 5ft because logically daggers dont reach out to 25ft.
This would further the mechanic of it and rolls for tank classes to cover for their dps.

The nonsense continues; after all the clamor for class nerfs, it’s the oil’s turn now. What’s next? The battering ram, perhaps? It’ll get a protective cover so it doesn’t scratch the gate...

I agree, and have always believed the same. In context of 'in-game reality' the idea someone could stand under boiling hot oil and suffer no injury was always lame. Unless it is magic oil, hand-crafted by the Elves of Lukenluckinland utilizing sentient molecules which can individually determine friend from foe.

Well, right after ballistas and cannons start to annihilate everyone with 1 shot...

Oil is just poured over and over like people who only use 3 buttons. Now the pour of the oil is tactical because you dont want to pour it when your side pushes out.
This adds to the tactics and another reason to claim keeps. To control the pouring of oil. Bad players just dump it on everyone. Good players use it for the push and control it for a counter push. Realising it can damage their own side.
