If I remember correctly, it’s been a few years since I read a similar post. This game being 2008 technology, runs on a single thread, so it’s pretty much overkill to throw a modern cpu/gpu at ror. I’m looking at an $800 gaming laptop for my dedicated ror device.

The game wants a strong single core on your cpu, a large amount of cpu cashe, and ram. you gpu barley maters to it. So look for something with a x3d amd processer and overclock at least 1 thread for it.

Code: Select all
Operating System: CachyOS Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.5.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.23.0
Qt Version: 6.10.2
Kernel Version: 6.19.0-2-cachyos (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 4 × Intel® Core™ i5-4670 CPU @ 3.40GHz
Memory: 24 GiB of RAM (23.4 GiB usable)
Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon RX 550 / 550 Series
Manufacturer: LENOVO
Product Name: 10AM0002US
System Version: ThinkCentre M83
Obviously I am not bragging on my PC, it's ~14 years old.
I do have an SSD and a "new" GPU from 2017.
In my experience RoR runs very well on max settings with many mods. Before I got a discrete GPU to replace my builtin Intel HD4600 that was not the case, it was playable but chugged around in many areas. I also attribute my nice FPS ~90-99 range (dipping to 70 or so under stress) to running the game in CachyOS linux (re: cachy-proton) and DXVK via Steam.
Launcher Argument:
Code: Select all
PROTON_USE_NTSYNC=1 DXVK_ASYNC=1 RADV_TEX_ANISO=16 ENABLE_VKBASALT=1 game-performance %command%
This info is presented to give other peeps some perspective.
