I'll be the first to admit I'm not the best healer, far from it, so take my advice with a pinch of salt.
Since the healer patch, I've struggled with shaman healing. Mainly, FodG sucks when youre geared for healing. It now scales with intelligence, and crits based off magic crit, so if you're healer geared it just doesn't really heal for much. It's still your best choice for out of group healing, but compared to how it was before it's a big downgrade.
On the flip side, if you're full DPS gear, FodG is now awesome! They added some other stuff to try and make DPS healing viable but you'll still be a long way behind healer spec.
I had a chat with a friend and have been playing this build recently:
RoR.builders - Shaman
The build / playstyle is really about trying to pump out some massive heals during emergencies. Most of the time you just focus on keeping HoTs on everyone and getting up to 5 gork. Then, when there's trouble, you either use Mork's Gift for a big single target heal, or gather round for the group.
Between Shrug it Off (+15% healing), Aint Done Yet (+40% healing) and Burst of Waaaghh (+50% crit healing) and 30% bonus healing on Morks Gift at 5 gork, you can get some massive heals. You can't do it all the time but I've gotten some 7k+ heals from Mork's Gift which can really help. You do need high heal crit to get any consistency but so far this build is working the best for me since the heal patch.
I also like the little bits of utility - the ranged knockback and resistence debuff.
If you're running in a 6man and have another healer who isn't a shaman, this tends to work really well. The zeal or DoK can pump out more conventional heals whilst you can do the burst healing in emergencies.
Alternative that I've run for a bit too:
RoR.builders - Shaman
You have less burst healing, but the Pass it On tactic procs quite a lot so it can boost your healing numbers quite a lot especially in blobby situations. And, given the amount of cleansing you do, adding a HoT to your cleanse it nice too.
