Graphics engine update?

Would it be possible to somehow update the game engine? Currently, some older games are doing this, and by fan base, such as Line Age 2 and WoW itself, which are being updated for UE 4 and 5.

Use the latest Sildurs enhanced raphics mode. I´m using it right now and game looks much better now. I set optimal distance for depth of field filter and it looks just gorgerous.
Sadly team is small and with limited resources it is impossible to just "reskin" game in to UE4/5.

This may surprise you, but WoW developers have access to the WoW source code, unlike the ROR team. And WoW has thousands of paid developers, while this game was developed by a few enthusiasts.

An engine change may not be necessary, but a pack of textures rescaled by AI would not be a bad idea.

Yes, I understand perfectly... in this case what is probably preventing it is the fact that they don't have the source code, since L2 for example is being remade by its fans...

Linage2 sourcecode got stolen in 2004, check wikipedia.
Expanded Textures via AI sounds interesting, sounds...
Game is 32 bit, so about 2 gb possible memory, and designed for graphic cards with max 768 mb memory. This is more or less max, even with already activated LAA, because of internal structures. If you would expand textures to double details (4 times as much memory needed), memory would expand over all limits for 32 bit. Game engine would be forced heavily to replace textures. Fps would drop to unplayable state.

I can see some textures like "base skin" of characters, and torso pieces still a bit low-res even after they upscaled every texture.
You can easily compare when equipping stuffs, smaller items looks far more detailed than Torso armors.
If any AI upscaling texture can be done, I think only Torso armor pieces could improve visuals.
Other than that, just using ReShade and Sildur stuff to enhance a bit lighting and colours is enough to me. Graphics are really aging well, at least from the Warhammer lore perspective (miniatures and artwork for example).

It's possible to override existing compiled data with an external source, but it requires a communication layer for the two existing datasets, which significantly impacts performance, and there's almost no way to fix it. It won't only cause server and connection-related performance losses, but it will also double or triple our computers' resource consumption. While we could theoretically overcome server and connection-related issues, we still can't find a solution to our computers' resource consumption. Lineage 2's story is different; after the source code was stolen, they rebuilt it from an older source code (the first beta version, if I'm not mistaken) in their archives. Furthermore, some lag in Lineage 2's gameplay mechanics is tolerable, but this could turn into a nightmare for Warhammer, especially since even the current lag is unbearable.

Upscaling textures can be done very efficiently since the game is using DDS with mipmaps. My educated guess is that we wont experience any ram issues since the client is large address aware, and 4gb of ram should be more than enough if we don't go crazy like 4x or 8x resolution.

I use reshade, that causes really nice light effects. All in all the game looks better with it.
