Return of Reckoning

When I stopped playing ROR I think the renown cap was 40 and I got the Anihilator set. I started playing again and would get the next set. From what I read I'm supposed to do PVE to unlock the sovereign set and then get that set and skiping everything in between. Is there a way to trade in my current set to get the next one (conqueror I think) at a discount or do I always have to buy the set at the full price?

Yes.

That is the reason why players skip those sets. They are not worth their price.
