[armor vs armor pene]

Can someone explain to me exactly how armor pene works on this server?
Let me give you an example:
A tank has about 5k armor, which gives about 114% physical damage reduction.
Of course, I know that the maximum physical damage reduction is 75%.
Question:
If the opponent has 80% armor pene (high WS), do I only have 20% armor left, or do I have 34% left due to the 114% physical damage reduction?

I am not taking into account bonuses that reduce armor penetration on the tank so as not to complicate the question.

Has anyone tested this?

Some abbreviations to make out lives easier in advance:
  • armor penetration% --> arpen%
  • reduced armor penetration% --> redarpen%

The formula for the penetration modifier is
1 - (arpen - redarpen)

The expression (arpen - redarpen) has a minimum of 0 and cannot take negative values
The whole modifier has a minimum of 0 and cannot take negative values

Then this modifier (between 0 and 1) is multiplied with your physical mitigation your armor would provide, resulting in your actual physical mitigation. That is capped at 75%.

In you example and assuming you have 0 redarpen%, we'd have a penetration modifier of 1 - (0.80 - 0) = 0.20
Then, your physical mitigation would be 114*0.20 = 22.8%

You can find the armor formula (and other surrounding stuff) in my damage calculator

P.S. For completeness' sake:
The physical mitigation from armor in the ingame character panel tooltip is displayed for your own level (usually 40).
The actual physical mitigation your armor provides (before penetration) is calculated with your attacker's level, not yours and follows the following formula:

This is very seldom relevant outside PvP (basically only if the attacker is bolstered above lvl40), but I wanted to mention it too.

May also want to understand the impact of an armor debuff on that 5k armor and why it's good to go over the cap vs not
