Buff Engineer when? It needs more than Magus
Engineer can never be as good as Magus for solo unless the devs buff it A LOT, it's simple Magic -->Physical in this game mode ( all top solo classes are Magic for a reason. Magus/Shaman/Arch-mage/Regen WE( corporeal).
Engineer's best solo spec is grenades/regen, which again is Magic, it's single-target spec is based on physical.
Because Magic dps in this game does not have invest in a secondary stat nor tactics to increase armor penetration. Magic get all penetration for free, in case of Engineer(Acid bomb) or for Magus that spirit debuff, the demon pet provides the single-target elemental debuff. Magic is free to invest into toughness/armor/wounds instead of weapon skill creating a superior character for solo roaming.
This is the main reason why singletarget Magus---> way more powerful than singletarget rifle engineer in solo. Also Magus get cheat stuff for free, like pet casting -5 crit debuff etc(futile strike II for free lol), engineer get no such luxury on the pet.
Imagine if Engineer suddenly got changed to elemental damage on all singletarget rifle skills/pet with elemental resistance debuff. It would instantly become the best Order solo roaming toon since it has the same strong CC of the Magus, only lacking the wounds buff. This is telling, if only our devs here would ever understand this.
Hence in a lot of new games, you'll see that often this mistake of having different mechanics for mitigation is not repeated. For example Physical or Fire or Cold or Lightning or Poison would all be mitigated by the same formula, i believe Diablo games started it and then other games embraced this simplification.
Older games like Warhammer online has these glaring balance issues at a fundamental level.

You should Uninstall if you lose to any melee class playing the most broken class in the game.
To be fair, a less geared/skilled Magus will lose to a WL/WH etc. On my WL only a few Magus can beat me 1vs1, same on WH. This is because a Majority of them are not adept at solo play and have leveled their entire carrer following a blob/zerg, when exposed to a real solo player they fall like a domino brick.
However, an average skilled Magus player might still lose to a regen tank if that tank try-hards on potions. SnB IB and 2H SM comes to mind, although both are nerfed in the last patch vs Magus. A good Magus should never lose to any of these classes 1vs1, it has too many advantages.
But i think the entire post is being sarcastic, no?
P.S. Also the fact that so many promote White lion as a strong solo class proves how many players there are in RoR without a clue.
WL will lose to these classes 1vs1 if they are prepared for duels and not incompetent:
Black Orc
BG
Chosen
Marauder
Magus
Witch elf(def).
Hybrid Shaman ( this one is close, mabye a tie)
Dok (shield, maybe dual wield depends on player)
That only leaves these classes that WL will beat comfortably given equal gear/skill:
SH
Sorc
Choppa
Zealot ( unsure here, have not played the game much since the last patches)
Witch elf( glass cannons)
Shaman( dps glass cannons)
