Inquiring about the ability "Shades of Death" atop the agony tree. Are there known issues with it? Every build I've seen people run, and they never use it? I love the idea of the ability and really want to include it, but... there has to be a reason people avoid it.

Also what is the standard aoe build now? Haven't seen much of it because sorcs like to one shot people :p

It is very underwhelming for an ability that requires an investment of 13 points due to the following reasons:
  • The 5 ticks can't ever crit, which also means that it doesn't utilize your class mechanic (for unknown reasons), and due to that fact, it deals a forgettable amount of damage.
  • The 5 ticks can be triggered by any source of damage, which makes it bad for the sorcerer, especially as your main role in the game is timestamping

SoD is a proc dmg, so it can't crit, but it does ignores toughness. Basically it sucks on soft targets, but becomes better on tanky ones.

It is 13 points up, so you won't be able to take it in standard Calamity builds.

It is however instacast ability on 5 sec cd, which also doesn't causes Backlash, so it has some uses.

It's okayish in the ST build but on other hands there are more interesting things to use like gloom of night and echo of power.
