Resume or start fresh?

Hey guys, so returning to RoR. On live I never really got to max due to life. When I initially found RoR I played a DoK and Shaman. The DoK is 40/26 and the shaman is 40/32. I'm wondering with my RR so far off is it better to restart new characters and relearn while leveling RR more efficiently? I know the shaman is pretty close and while I like the class, I see them everywhere, are there too many? Was, looking to start as a Squig or being the shammy back. DoK was good but the part I liked about it most was the spec that now requires a shield, which I'm not a fan of esthetically.

It's really up to you. Leveling in this game imo is really fun (orvr + sc's in t1 with lair or two, sc's in mid tier maybe with city dungeon run) and if you feel rusty it's good way to refresh memory and learn more about the class. T1 & mid tier is good place to make friends also. However rerolling is not mandatory at all: RR comes fast at that level if can join in group or warband that gets good amount of kills and contributes to zone locks or keep defences.

I never did the city dungeons or other dungeons. I leveled with SCs and PQs. Are there too many Shammys around I see a lot of them around IC?

I believe it's most popular class in the game but maybe half of them are dps shamans who like to do their own thing. Shaman is versatile class because both healing and dps spec's are strong and that big reason why it is so popular. I wouldn't worry about it and just play it if you like.

I think youre fine you'll just be gimp for 1-2 weeks. You could get to 40 rr in an afternoon of spamming scs or a weekend casually. Also like others mention you can do dungeons (gunbad) until you're higher. I still use some gunbad pieces on my rr60 character. If you dont have ruin then go for ruin right now it only takes a few hrs solo to farm it.

Thanks for the replies. So I think I need to start over. Being put in 40 SCs with all the geared people I get destroyed. I spend more time waiting for revive then playing. My gear is a mix of the Ruin set and chapter influence rewards. I know that's a huge part of the problem but I don't think I can enjoy the game to get to the point I can try and buy the gear I need to be viable. Also, I am way out of practice with Shammy and its just bad.

40/42 or so is enough to be competitive, so no need to reroll. You do need a better gear though, mix for now ruin with 2-3 sets of annil/merc (remember, you can buy boots+gloves for gold on ah), and go Gunbad for redeye set. Once you got it, mix it with ruin or merc/annil, and do city dungeons for sentinel +weapons. Also, there is a pretty nice toughness/wounds jewelry for sham which drops there.
Might be also worth checking the beastlord set, healing set but not sure on all stats on this one.
Once you got those, mix something between them and farm renown. At 42 you can equip 2-3 conq/domi (again, boots+gloves from ah), mixed with sentinel that should make you competitive enough (sentinel is healing set for sham, for a dps one you likely need to farm bloodlord from the next dungeon Bastion Stairs).

Awesome, thanks for the info. I was getting super discouraging. 4k hp just melted to anyone on Order who just tab-targeted me. Pretty sure a RK one shot me

I did not know you can buy some pieces off the auction that will help. Ill have to look for a guide for the dungeons, never done them.

Early t4 is always rough. Practicing in lower tier helps somewhat because better game sense helps you get prepared for what is coming. Once you hit rank 40 you should probably head to pve and do beastlord, gunbad, bb/be and hunters vale.

In general, remember that as healer in pvp defense always over extra healing, dead healers can't heal. Put your renown into defensive whatever, and mix sets for defensive stats. Possible options are toughness, wounds, armor, dodge/disr/parry, and of cause FS.
Toughness works very well from experience, especially when mixed with absorbs, you do however need at least 700, and preferably 800. before it starts working. From other hand, sham has Do Sumfin Useful as a very nice toughness buff. Remember though that it can be shattered, so cover it with with hots (if you cast first hot then Do Sumfin Useful, hot will be shattered first).
Personally I don't like armor- every class which matters can bypass it, penetrate it, or just ignore it. Some still love it though, for some reason.
Dodge/disr can be nice, question though which classes actually kill you. Also, rdps tend to have a lot of dodge/disr bypass.
FS is always nice, but you can't get too much of it at your rr.
Also slot defensive tactics- change them depending on whatever doing rvr (lot of place to kite) or sc (depending on sc likely less place to kite).
And remember Gork Sez Stop m1- put it on a right target and you can get kills even as a full heal sham

(no healing m1 though then)
