Return of Reckoning

I just redownloaded the game after some time of inactivity.
I followed the steps as described with the installer.
When I open the game, I get the splash screens normally. I can also select the server and see the user rights acceptance.
But I can't see any characters. My entire screen is black.
I can see the Server, options, buttons and such.
Sometimes I get a button to launch one of my chars, chich loads normally. (although my r40 Warrior priest seems to have most of his gear missing, but that's another matter)

I'ts most likely that you missed some step on the installation guide. most likely file permissions.
Make sure the folder is not in Program Files or OneDrive cloud folders.
Right Click on the Warhammer Online - Return of Reckoning folder -> properties, untick read-only and apply to all files.

I forgot about this, but I did some more checks.

Step 1 : redownloaded client.
Step 2: Installed DirectX 9.0C
Step 3: copied the folder to a folder directly on C (called just WAR, to keep it simple)
Step 4: downloaded new launcher and copied it.
Step 5: removed read only from the entire folder and subfolder structure.
Step 5: Whitelisted in Firewall
Step 6: Set all exe's (rorlauncher.exe, War.exe, War-64.exe) to be run as admin.
Step 7: run launcher, let it patch: no patch found. Closed patcher and restarted it.

When I run the game, I see the menu's but the screen remains black.
I get a random character I can log, but 9 chances out of 10, when I try it, I get kicked back to desktop.
If I get ingame, I get tooltips on my inventory items, but the items themselves remain invisble.

Please note that when I drag my settings menu, it's transparent!

Have same issue on PC which never had this problem before - any first launch of game (with fresh drivers, dx9 etc) freeze on black screen. Win7 bring option for close stopped game when pressing keys or click mouse on screen. Tab and click sometimes help to pass after windows popp-up message.
Its not a problem of local equipment (since it not changed and dont have such behavior for any other program) but current version of game launch something like trailer or intro without correct codec imho.

Hmm. files look fine. That is pretty strange.
maybe try using DXVK to see if that makes a difference?
download the dxvk-1.10.3.tar.gz from here: https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/releases/tag/v1.10.3

extract it and copy the d3d9.dll from the x32 folder to RoR folder, next to WAR.exe

Can you post the contents of debug.log file that's in the logs folder of RoR

please try this and delete following files:
- video_french.myp
- vo_french.myp

bonus points, if you don't have any setups (addon setups/ingame setups) delete these files/folders aswell:
- Interface
- user
- clear the content of your cache folder
