What is it and why do I insta die?

You have a moral bar and 4 moral abilities. The bar builds up when you use actions on people or take damage. Once yiu build enough you can use them. They are quite powerful since defender cant mitigate the damage.

If you have played League of Legends, think of morale damage as true damage; there is no mitigation for it in any way, so when multiple sources coordinate to use it all at once, you get insta-gibbed.

There is a cap on morale cap before it has diminish returns - AFAIK it is 2400, after that all morale damage does 50% of the value (for 2s? unsure exactly). Oil counts as morale damage and has no diminishing returns.

Iirc you get 50% mitigation after 2400 dmg and every second after that make it lower
