"Play" Button and Character Creation Not Working

Hi all -
EDIT 2***:
It will let me login if I try to create a new character and hit "Play" instead of trying to log in with my main (named Sanctifi) first. So that's good news I guess except that I don't want to gear another character. Looking around on the forums, I think some other people have had issues when their character had logged off in Altdorf as well. Does this fix itself after a server restart? Could a GM be able to teleport my character out of wherever it is currently stuck?

I am posting because the "Play" button at the character selection screen does not appear to be working for me. I was playing in the Altdorf city last night when my game crashed - right around the time it was ending too. When I went to log back on, it showed my character as being in Reikland but the "Play" button doesn't do anything.
I thought I would go ahead and create a new character to contact a GM but when I click "Done" after choosing hair color, name, etc. nothing happens either and then it says "server connection timed out". If I stick on the character selection screen for a bit, it disconnects and goes back to "Locating Allies" and then "Searching for Battles" and nothing more.
I tried re-downloading the entire torrent and re-installing the game and that did not work.
Any ideas as to what could be going on or if there is a fix?

EDIT***: Just to clarify...I've also done the following:
1. Ran RoRLauncher.exe as an administrator
2. Unchecked "read only" for the warhammer file (and all subfolders / files)
3. Opened up my inbound ports 80, 8000, 8048 and 10622 which seemed to be the ones per the following post: https://returnofreckoning.com/forum/vie ... 444#p36360
4. Dx9 is installed
It seems to me that I lose connection at the actual launch screen (logging in is fine). I was so close to having all my invaders too
