Some good tips for renown in Tier 1 if you are having problems earning it:
Make sure you join a Warband - Press "L" and look through the list of open WB's with at least 1 free spot in the zone you want to fight in and join.
Once in a WB look for people who are picking up Supplies (small boxes that spawn at the Battle Objective flags) then run with whoever picks it up back to the entrance to the zone where there is a Supply Flag that you right click on to deliver the supplies, rewarding anyone close and in the WB Influence, Renown and XP. When someone picks up supplies they will have a glowy red or blue (depending on faction) effect on them which is easy to spot once you know to look for it.
If you are in a badly 1 sided zone, consider moving to another contested zone if it's open, the RoR_SoR addon (stands for State of Realm) is excellent for keeping track of which zones are open and what status they are at so you can see what zones are likely to suit your preferred play style.
If none are open and your faction is pinned back at the warcamp unable to do much, see if you can get on one of the Canons and rain fire down on them for some kills. But be warned the most effective canons are the "cluster bomb" type ones and aiming them can sometimes be a lil tricky with wind direction and them not always allowing you to shoot at areas you can see enemies. You kinda have to keep moving the firing cross around and using mouse wheel to change distance until it actually fires, but once you get it mastered, oh boy, it can be super fun when they are all clustered up haha.
It's worth focusing on the Influence from each zone, so you can get the rewards which are "blue" quality items and about as good as you can get for the level range w/o busting your gut PVE farming which really isn't worth it for a newer player. Also you can buy renown gear for either Medallions (that you get from the PVP) or with silver, use this to fill in the blanks in your gear, unless you get lucky with drops during the fights which can get you upgrades.
Regarding loot then i advise pressing "L" and going to the Auto-roll tab then selecting Need/greed for most of the options so you don't get bombarded with loot roll pop ups in the middle of a fight which can be distracting, this allows you to auto-roll so you still get the loot, just remember to check your backpack every so often for possible new gear that is worth using.
Hope this helps, GL out there and have fun
