How realistic is it for devs to give us a xmog appearance window? So we can see how items look like before using it for appearance

Can you not just wear it to see?

Anything could be done if enough time was devoted, but creating a window which displayed models on a doll would take a lot of time and work so I don't foresee it happening. We could however manually insert screenshots of all the pieces of gear into the wiki but would likely need to take in additional team members with the sole purpose of filling in the wiki with screenshots.

You can use BoE items for appearance without binding them. You cannot preview reward items though.

There is alredy the character menu 3d

What has to be done is someone with the capacity to take it and make an add.on based on it that take current appereance minus the new gear applied as temp gear local on your client only similar to what happen with the dye preview add on. Plus slap all this into a key combination like ctrl + shift + left click over any icon.

Just someone with the capacity and will should step up.

That would require a render scene for each item, wich i dont think the client provides atm. As of now its on a use basis that they get loaded.
However mythic had some plans for 3d portraits as it is mentioned in the player frame files, but was never implemented iirc
