Classes and PvP/RvR

So my last post was really just aimed at how classes work within the game and the mechanics I can expect to deal with. I see a lot of suggestions for Chosen as they have passive auras. That's great, I don't have to worry about my class mechanic, but I still have to do My job as a tank.

In a PvE context that would be cake, but this is mostly a PvP game, whether it's Scenarios or open RvR. I've never been great at PvP in MMOs. In WoW it wasn't really a big deal because there were plenty of players that were bad in battlegrounds etc. I feel like this isn't going to be the case as this is a small dedicated server. I'm going to be a newbie in a sea of veterans.

Is there any info out there for Newbies when it comes to classes and PvP? I'm not looking for the best/easiest class, as I know that's subjective and in this environment things aren't static like in PvE. I just hope to not be useless out on the battlefield while I learn the game.

Chosen is a very good class to pick if you are just starting off: passive auras that are not complex to use whatsoever, very resilient and self-sufficient, and incredibly useful in all aspects of the game (PvE, 6-man SC/RVR, Warband, Dueling!).

There are no useless classes. You really can't go wrong. You could deliberate and waste a bunch of time on here, or you could grab the class you like the style of and get started. There is a position for you in RvR regardless of what you pick.

I've started a couple of character, and I wanted to get some input on what I can expect at higher levels. Maybe it will give me a hint on which one I want to focus on.

I'm really in love with the Chaos/Fighter Aesthetic. I've currently got a Chosen and a Marauder going. In terms of Chosen, the biggest hurdle I can see having to surmount in the near future is Guard management.

I haven't gotten as far with the Marauder, having just made him on a whim. How do mutations generally play out in this game? Is it a very involved mechanic? Or more of a pick one for awhile, then change kind of deal?

For mara you generally start out in savagery, debuff an enemy and swap to brutality to burst him down. Then back to savagery, repeat. Swap to monstro if being focused to proc your armor pen shield. In warbands, stay in monstro mostly, swapping to Brut for the occasional guillotine killsteal when you pull that pesky bright wizard into the gaping maw of the zerg.

Thanks. Neither seems overly complex. I foresee a few more button presses on the marauder, but maybe it even out with guard swapping and tank duties.

Kind of a silly question: How would you rate the APM of each class? I can be a little slow on the draw.

Mara is one of the more apm heavy classes if you want to be good on it. Keep track of debuffs, switch stance at the right time etc. Chosen is more focus on cc+ guarding

Mara has higher APM but the game has a built in 1.5 sec gcd, so no class has a very high APM relative to other games. BG and IB have highest APM i think, chosen and knight have one of the lower.
