New to game

Hey all,
I've always wanted to play and never got the chance. Found this server and I'm going to give it a try finally \o/
A friend and i will be playing Destruction together. I was wondering if you guys can maybe give me a few ideas of what classes go well together? He mostly plays Melee and I can play what ever Melee/ranged/caster.
Maybe another way to ask it maybe is, is it bad to have 2 melee characters always running around together? Easily kited etc.
