Return of Reckoning

In the Badlands (dwarf region), I picked up a quest called "Ancient Horror." It asks me to "examine the Promising and Interesting stones in order to gather rock samples." But the quest objective says Crumbling Stone Sample 0/1. There are no "crumbling stone samples" for me to interact with, but there are two "promising stones" that light up with I mouse over them, although the cursor does not turn into a hand. (So clicking, right-clicking, or double-clicking them does nothing.) I assume that I am supposed to "examine" or interact with these somehow, but I have no idea how. Am I missing something? Any help/advice would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!
