OK, this is probably a lost cause. But it sure would be nice if there was some way to check to see if any of my friends are logged into the game, using my phone. ??

If you don't have one already, a discord server is free and incredibly efficient and useful for connecting gamers (and people in general. It's the android phone to Skype/teamspeak/ventrillo's Nokia brick) and if you and your friends join a voice channel every time you play you'll be able to enjoy the game to its fullest and know who is online and ready to rock.
