Seems like they may loosen the copyright restrictions and allow us to actually reward our Devs for all the time and energy they spend.

Read the whole article. It is unlikely that this happens, when industry leading companies vote against it.

ESA can share their opinion but in the end the us copyright office can deny their claims. I just went through this process myself and the decision is up to the copyright office. You can plead your case one way or another but they have final say.

pointing out that if EA and co feel like small groups of ppl with old games could challenge new tiles with not even 1% finantial support /advertise and programming pace there is something wrong with game industry.

British (and American) legal systems are built on layers of precedent, some small and seemingly insignificant that build up to overule seemingly watertight legislation.

Over in the colonies states are using small, innocent looking, precedents to eliminate federal ligislation on everything from abortion to taxation.

No big gaming company will allow any change to copyright law for this reason.
