Return of Reckoning

So maybe it's my bad but I did do a search and for the record, the search function does not tie all words together for a search. One simple question as to the Free For All system on the group loot. Seems to work more like whoever does more damage than an actual especially for quest items. Just want to know if this is common (which I can deal with at level 7 if my wife healer can do more damage than me) or if I am somehow missing a setting somewhere that does not pop up when I click party options (which seem that most pertain to Warband.) Thanks in advance let me know if I am a noob I will totally accept it!

Killing blow is key, in most situations. Questing, oRvR etc.
