Before I play, one question.

My knowledge, as far as Private Servers go, is that they are generally illegal. Is that the same for Return of Reckoning? I'm asking because I can't exactly see EA or GW being okay with a private server of their game.

Gork grant me patience...

Hi! Yes this is a private server, from what I hear from other players GW apparently said, unofficially, that they don't mind private servers as long as no donations are taken. This is a project that former players on the official server develop in their own time, they DO NOT accept donations.
As for EA, don't particularly care what they think since they lied to me for 5 years straight about the official games future AND pulled the plug on the 5th anniversary of the game with a few days notice. Just my thoughts, I'm neither Dev staff or support staff, just a fan of the game.

I got in a discussion regarding it on the Eternal Crusade forums and people said it was legal, I just wanted to double check first. I was a GM on a WoW Private Server that got shut down by Blizzard, didn't want to join RoR only for it to be closed down.

Agree with Orcy in 100%
Nothing illegal at private server, when all is money free, and Beloved Devs working only for theirs worshippers:)
We are just a bunch of WAR fans, who appreciate collosal work of great ppl -ROR DEVS, who working absolutely for free, and still better than commercial game studios like EA or mythic.
So cutt of the bullshit, :)

That was inappropiate.

I know that blizzard will shot every wow privateserver down l, no matter if donations are happening or not. But if GW has no problem with RoR then they could give us the damn WAR source to complete this server asap!

Pretty sure they'd charge for the source, assuming they can get it from EA.

There shouldn't be any problem, as long as you don't charge money for the IP of others.

I think you get problems with:
1. Games Workshop, when you try to collect money (or maybe atm you get sued by Sega, or both... :D )
2. Electronic Arts, when you alter the client files (theoretically, as mods for other games are normally tolerated)

Btw: The original development studio "Mythic Entertainment" was closed, after they concentrated all their resources on that crap.

Y sure have right, im overeacted, my apologies.
But try understand, when someone ask "its worthy to begin wit illegal server " about my beloved game i can smoothly say only something " dear sir, if you have some doubts about equity of this server, pls leave us beggards and thiefs in our cave of immorality alone"
That is what i want to say , at whole beginning

Things should be fine if there is no form of money transaction between members and the project. We don't accept any form of financial aid from the members, and any money put towards this is out of our own pockets (willingly), including the time/work we put into it.

RoR is solely a non-profit project, in which the primary intention is to restore a game we once loved, returned to its former glory (as of 1.4.8 state back in December 2013). It's not gonna happen over night, but if we're still here in the next several years, it may be close to that.
