Receiving Soldier's Medallions vs. Officer's Medalions

During a lengthy back and forth this afternoon I accumulated 60 Soldier's Medallions (not Emblems 
) while all others that were receiving Medallion's were getting Officer level. I thought maybe this is due to my RR being 39 atm, but each time I've lake-RvR'd during the past 4 days I've only received Officer's Medallions. Did I just happen to be in on killing lower Rank/Renown players EVERY time today, or...? Thanks in advance for helpful replies.
