[Engineer] Does parry work if you have your gun equipped?

The engineer switches his gun or spanner depending on your used abilities. And if an enemy is close your auto attacks also change to spanner attacks.

My question is:
Do you need your spanner in hands when the parry should work?

Is Parry dependent on facing your target?

My question is regarding the possibility of using Renown parry tactics like it is suggested for WH. Because with the flame turret and deft defender a tinkerer is very well protected vs Range and magic.

So adding some more protection vs melee should be better than simple toughness increase.

Parry works with anything equipped afaik. You can only parry from your front cone much like using a shield.

The best protection vs melee is to not get caught by a snare/cc, so I find that resolute 3 is better, providing you can use it at the correct time as it doesn't remove CC, just stops them from happening.

Parry is otherwise the best option for defence agaisnt melee.

best method is to test it on a ranged mob and see if you parry successfully.

Why a ranged mob?

His attacks aren't parried at all?

Because you said you wanted to know if you are able to parry whilst wielding the gun and not the spanner, if you did this with a melee based mob your spanners auto equips.

Yeah and you can't parry ranged attacks.
Only dodge as far as I know.

So your advice for the test is mumpitz as we call it.

Ah I forgot that ranged attacks are dodged, my bad, no idea how to test it then.

Aren't axe tosses etc able to be parried since they aren't reliant on ballistic skill? Like engie spanner swipe is a melee attack but is dodged because it relies on ballistic skill to hit. idk worth a shot maybe? I'm pretty sure you technically always have rifle and spanner "in your hands" with regards to any relevant defense rolls.

Also with regards to your defense question, if your native chance to be crit isn't at 0%, I'd place the renown points there before parry.

I have been wondering about this, why do you think crit reduction is more important than parry?
