Graphical glitch or Installation error?

eh, nothing to serious, in fact it may actually just be my fault when I installed it. i'm actually living with it at the moment, since i'm LOVING the game right now 
basically some textures black out, props like bushes blink in and out and the graphics all look the same no matter what graphics set up is chosen.
alright, so, I got everything working perfectly fine on the first time...
except for ONE thing which is probably the source of this, I have NO idea where to place the DirectX files after I downloaded them, so I just the Directx I have on my Computer which happens to be the latest version.
now, I understand 100% that this is an Alpha and glitches are bound to happen. I accept that with a big fat grin, I just want to know if the graphical glitches i'm experiencing are just plain normal and should be expected or an installation error on my end.
