Lately there has been much discussion about the usefullness of DPS-Runepriests.
May be I am not getting it, but I really fail to see why someone should bring a DSP-RP to a party/wb.
It may have a place in a premade group, but that is beyond my experience, since I was never part of an experienced premade group.
Compared to other DSP-Classes I have the feeling that the RP's single target "DPS" is not something to write home about.
Its AoE-Dmg is even worse.
The only thing that seems really interessting is the ability for an incoming healing Debuff with a tactic that is 11 mastery points up in the grugni tree called "Rune of Nullification".
Let's say our RP has a crit-chance of about 33%, that means you will probably have to use 3 gcd's to make it happen.
That is almost 4 sec cast time for a 5 sec heal-debuff !?
Can you please enlighten me, what am I missing?

I hope Fisk sees this. He runs a good dps RP. I saw some potential for ganking with the slow proc tactic, and rune of battle is kinda cool, that you can cast additional spells as it hits, and set it on any ally... but no. I never thought my RP would be any sort of viable dps...
But I await some theory crafting eagerly. No sarcasm...

Its a fair option for solo play if that's your cup of tea. I don't run Rune of Nullification for solo

There are some hard DPS runis out there.
You should direct your questions to them.
If you want some proof check these legends of the old:
Well, those videos show only a portion of the real action - a selection where they succeeded and cut away those portions where they failed. It shows a high ranked player, I doubt that this is currently possible in RoR.
Let's state some facts:
* The damage spells have a range of 100 feet, same as other ranged dps classes (like sorceress). So if you can hit them, they can hit you too.
* Rune of Fire (the only Insta-cast direct damage spell) has a CD of 5 sec.
* Rune of Immolation (the only Dot) ticks over 15 sec, which is good in combination with the Immolation Crasp tactic (snare & ap-drain), but not good enough for bringing your opponent down fast enough.
* You can spec for another Dot (Rune of Fate) - which has CD of 30 sec and ticks over 24 sec!
* You can spec for Rune of Burning - which is a channeled spell with decent damage - but it can't be cast on the move.
* Rune of Striking (the only core DD damage spell) has a cast time of 2 sec and can't be cast on the move.
* After activating "Damage Mode" (Rune of Breaking) all of your Willpower/Healing Power/Heal-Crit chance from items is converted to Intelligence/etc. - that means your healing abilities are very much rudimentary.
With the tactic "Efficient Runecarving" it may be viable for solo-action, but well that is not my cup of tea.
It still seems to me, that the RP is giving up much, for gaining very little.

I think the critical hit rate is fine for the heal debuff tactic ,Its not only direct but applies to any number of targets.
RP has enough aoe abilities to trigger to heal debuff tactic several enemies .
I think Rune of Breaking is what's broken . If the RP could keep a high percentage of its willpower and heal critt ,like 60% when toggled, then the RP can do a mixture of good dps and still a little helpful healing.

If there's anyone interested I can post my spec and how it plays if it adds to the theorycrafting. I think Im only one player that play the solo rp on this server atm (I could be wrong though). There's alot of dps rp specs and this is the only viable one atm imo.
