Melee Channels + "Animation Cancelling"

Hey y'all.

So as you know, most melee channels other than BO/SM's and the Lifetaps of WP and DoK are considered garbage and a waste of talent points. This is because, while they generally have slightly higher tooltip dps than two instant abilities combined, the loss of basic attacks tends to nullify that dps increase - if not outright overriding it.

However, I've been thinking. 2-handed weapons tend to have very low attack speed, a lot of them actually taking more time to swing than 3 seconds per attack.

So would it technically be viable to use Melee Channels, as long as one initiates them right after hitting a basic attack?

I guess it mainly depends on how the basic attack chain resets after the Channel has ended - has anyone any information on this?

Blackguard's Enraged Beating:

* No. You don't use this as a DPS skill. You use it to gain hate
* The reason you don't use this as a DPS skill is because you have a tactic that increases your AA speed by 50%, so using EB as a filler results in a DPS loss.

Chosen's Relentless:

* This is not your filler for two reasons: 1) you don't have an armor debuff; 2) Chosen have low weapon skill.
* Chosen relies on magic damage for 'DPS', and I still believe the best attack to use as the filler is ravage.
* However...if you ARE 2H, spec'd pure str, AND have a marauder in your group AND a decent amount of WS (from a BO/spec'd - for whatever reason) you could have a point. But ravage is normally better because resists are generally lower than armor ratings.

I've noticed that after the channel ends, the AA occurs right after - which can be good if you do an ability right after the channel as you are normally guaranteed to coincide it with an AA.

I see your points. And since IB has a 50% AS buff as well - he drops off too.

What about 2H KotBS though? May not have an Armor Debuff, but unless you plan on a mighty soul build you're stuck dealing physical damage anyway - and you tend to have high WS thanks to Runefang. Also, no access to a 50% AS buff.

In which case it could be semi-useful, though I have never played a KOTBS and don't feel particularly qualified to say yes or no =P
