Return of Reckoning

Hello,
When I launch the game, I reach the character selection screen. However, I am not able to create a character as the music starts playing, I can click all the system buttons along the bottom, but to the right is a black box (I assume where you would choose to create a character).

The music will play for about 15 seconds, then I receive an error that states:

Critical Error
Authentication failed -- Application will now terminate

This happened regardless of me changing account etc etc.

I'm having the same issue on this account, on my other account I can't login at all

You need to rebuild performance counters. How to manually rebuild performance counters:
1- Go to start, and type in the search box "cmd". Right click cmd, and run as administrator.
2- Type in the command console, "cd c:\windows\system32", and hit enter.
3- Then type "lodctr /r", and hit enter.

It will take a few seconds to perform the command.Performance counters should be rebuilt. Try starting the game again.

If that does not work, type

Maybe this will help you, I did this and now I don't recieve the error message, however I still can't create a character on this account, and I'm still not able to login to my other account.

After I scanned my computer with windows defender I am now able to logon to the servers, this also might work for you
