Return of Reckoning

To those who use it frequently, what is the most productive way to use that feature? I often find after posting, or commenting, that someone has said/written exactly what I wanted to say/ask, but more concise and a bit clearer. However, I've never found what I needed before i've posted what amounts to a repeat post, as I'm always met with "... returned no results..." when using Search.

What do you search-mongers do to get this engine to purr instead of sputter? Thanks!
